Re: 1010 fan belt replacement?
Thanks Stan. I don’t mind the extra expense given the savings in time and labor. I do wish they made them in the right width of 7/16, but I think I will just drop down to the 3/8ths which I think will ride in the pulleys ok rather than the 1/2” which seems a little iffy for staying on track.

Re: 1010 fan belt replacement?
Getting around the fan isn’t so much the issue: the grill/nose requires a hoist to remove, then the radiator, then the hydraulic pump (all to get the belt around the drive pulley). The archives do mention using the adjustable belts which avoid all that but no follow-up on how they did (inquiring min...

1010 fan belt replacement?
Hummm. Looks like I’m also going to need a new fan belt as the existing one is looking pretty bad. Oddly, that’s not covered in the service manual—but looks to me like that means removing the hood, grill, radiator, and hydraulic pump to get a new belt on. Can it be that complex just for a new belt o...

1010 reverser filter change puzzle
So I figured I would change the oil and filter on my 1010 diesel but I’ve run into a problem: I removed the reverse oil filter manifold but (because the old filter is still attached to the manifold) I don’t have clearance to pull the manifold-with-filter all the way out because it’s blocked by the s...

Re: tips on changing reverser fluid & filter on 1010c diesel
Mainly I was wondering whether the recommendations for kerosine/diesel rinse after draining is worthwhile (and if so is this before or after filter replacement) and whether there are any cautions on old filter removal/replacement (other than to make sure to put it back together in the right order an...

tips on changing reverser fluid & filter on 1010c diesel
My reverser is working great so I'm a little reluctant to even mess with it, but it has been over 30 years since the reverser fluid was changed and I only recently discovered that there's also a filter involved. I looked through the archives but didn't find any posts -- are there any pitfalls to cha...

Re: Need photo of 1010c transmission drain plug location
Stan-- re many locations: yes, this has turned into a where's Waldo situation-- From "on the left side," to "sometimes right side", to "on the bottom, in the middle, toward the back". JimmyD --Ding Ding! I think you've found Waldo! I'm back in NC so couldn't look directly but after further review of...

Re: Need photo of 1010c transmission drain plug location
I forgot to say, it’s located exactly on the midline just forward of where the drawbar attaches. But that’s a lot more than 4” from the back plate of the transmission box

Re: Need photo of 1010c transmission drain plug location
JimmyD Well now that’s interesting news. So it’s not located on the side of the transmission case, it’s located on the bottom of the case? That certainly makes a lot more sense in terms of draining fluid but is totally at odds with the ambiguous photo of the location in the owners manual, the shop m...

Re: Need photo of 1010c transmission drain plug location
Lavoy Well there’s nothing with a square end, recessed socket, or exposed threads showing. But here a closeup of my best candidate [https://share.icloud.com/photos/0cevRpDHo9hA5zgW6TFrf4iiA] There’s no strength markings and it does not have a lock washer and although it doesn’t look to me to be “qui...

Re: Need photo of 1010c transmission drain plug location
The exploded parts diagram is perhaps even more confusing and appears to show it on the right side (it’s definitely not)

Re: Need photo of 1010c transmission drain plug location
So I’m out of the woods (just time, the mosquitoes were about ready to carry me off). The manual shows this [https://share.icloud.com/photos/0f6S7TqI0CloF2ruGNzflJi_g] But because of my blade I see this when looking from a similar vantage point [https://share.icloud.com/photos/003SyGdrijH2ru6dQDN3OK...

Re: Need photo of 1010c transmission drain plug location
Lavoy— well, I’ve stared long and hard at the photo in the owner’s manual (and the shop manual—which unfortunately has only the very same photo) and I’m not finding any plug on the side in that area. I’ll see if I can send a photo of the area I’m out of the woods and back home. There are a couple pl...

Re: Need photo of 1010c transmission drain plug location
Lavoy. Is it centered over the top of the rear cross bar on the left side? I already made the mistake or removing one of the “cap screws” on the reverser thinking that was it (but no fluid came out—oops— so I’m trying to avoid removing more wrong bolts).
