Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

I have two questions. 1975 JD450C 6 way blade. If I remove hoses to replace them from the hydraulic control valves just forward of the hydraulic tank, especially the main pressure line from the pump, will it drain the tank? Should I drain the oil before doing some hose replacements? OK three questi...

Re: Vandalism guard and tool tray insert for the left box

I understand. Mother Nature always requires attention. I would say our winter has been relatively “open”. A hand full of snow storms. Not much accumulation. We did have 2” of rain in January, that was quite unusual. We have been able to use the corn stalk fields as roughage for the cattle. Good to h...

Re: Help removing/dismantling a 450C starter

Use an impact swivel socket if you have one. That worked better for me than the u joint knuckle swivel. It is possible to remove the nut by using a fine tooth ratchet, the exact right length extension, swivel, thin arm/hand bxt the engine and frame rail, fishing from the front side of the machine wh...

Re: Help removing/dismantling a 450C starter

I used a nice long extension from under the machine when the belly pan was removed. Like metalmender suggested, you could use a pic of the JDG725 as a pattern and custom bend your own wrench.

I have not known the case/armature to be removable in the way that you want them to be.

Re: Help removing/dismantling a 450C starter

Well I have been there several times. That bottom bolt is a PITA. I have worked on machines where the bottom fastener is a stud with lock washer and nut(this seems to be better than the bolt). The real JD wrench for the 300 series engine-starter removal is the JDG725. Kind of $$$. The nut or bolt ca...

Re: root rake for jd440ic

I can imagine the root rakes that require removal of the dozer blade would take time and effort to remove and replace. When a process takes too long or is too hard, it becomes dreaded and is natural to avoid that process. Those poor old rakes would end up neglected and stored behind the barn. And as...

Re: Adding to the Fleet

Okay here it goes. Reality- 100hp tractor with cab, reverser, front wheel assist. I’m thinking Kubota, Case/IH. Pre-emission rig. Like M9000 or 5240 with the legendary 5.9 Cummins. Dreaming- Midi excavator with a tilt rotator. A diesel single axle dump truck to replace my gas burner and a TAG traile...

Re: Vandalism guard and tool tray insert for the left box

Good morning Al,

I just could not bring myself to shipping the panel off when it was shaped like a taco. It still is sprung a bit, and any help you could give it would be appreciated. I’m still disappointed with myself for leaving it on the top of the track then backing over it.

Take care, Bruce

If the starter is spinning slow or with low torque consider troubleshooting low voltage delivery.

Re: Water Leakage BO Lindemna

The pushrod tube(s) will need replaced. I have never used brass under the cylinder head nuts. Always used lead, for torque reasons, and they have worked well for me.

Re: Winter starting a 450C. Block heater? Tank heater? My options??

Good evening kilohertz I didn’t think the tank style heaters had pumps in them. The ones I’m familiar with rely on thermosiphon action and have a heating element inside the tank. The early tanks were steel and would rust out /leak. I think the manufactures have made significant improvements. In a pr...
