Re: 1982 450 c fuel tank screen
I believe the screen is metal and non-replaceable for the out-going fuel line. Have you checked/cleaned/ flushed the sump drain at the bottom of the tank? These are some of the most neglected pieces on our machines. It is my understanding the filter in the fuel line is to keep big pieces in the tank...

Re: JD 550 Converter Seal and Winch Shaft
Winch is likely a 3325 model. I don’t see why the T41213 shaft could not be straightened in a good press.

Re: Advice on 450c complete rebuild
It sounds like your engine had a very poor maintenance cycle. This leads to sediment in the cooling system, couple that with fluid cavitation and you end up corrosion in the liners and block. Thank you for expanding on the mechanic’s findings. Repair vs replace.?? Best regards, Bruce

Re: Advice on 450c complete rebuild
I’m with Jim on the block. What is ate up so badly that makes it un-rebuildable? Short of a catastrophic failure, diesel blocks have enormous rebuild potential. Rebuild your dozer if you are in it for the long run. If you just need it moving, locate and place a used engine. I live on a small cow-cal...

Re: Weighing out options--Which dozer should I buy? A 450, 450B, or a 350?
Just looking at the pics, I would say the asking price is near fair. It could be parted out for a profit, at his asking price. If the finals, steering clutches, rear end, trans and engine are solid/useable, I could make this a nice crawler with a complete new u/c. Assuming I didn’t pay myself for la...

Re: 450b age?
Good morning and welcome, Stan has a very nice post in the "John Deere Crawler FAQ's" section that lists the models, years and SN breakdowns. For a 450B, SN 164,047 - 185,798 is listed as a 1974. The floor boards are 2 pieces, one left and one right. The are a steel diamond plate material. Likely no...

Re: JD 450C loss of power when put in gear
The IP can be removed easily, without any major engine component removal. Before removing the pump, identify a window in the bell housing. It should be on the same side as the pump just in front of the flywheel. There should be a small stamped steel cover bolted over the inspection window. The bolt ...

Re: JD 450C loss of power when put in gear
I would check the vent in the tank to make sure it is open. The sump at the bottom of the fuel tank will need cleaned (it has been neglected for years). Make sure the fuel lines to the filter and the injection pump are clean, clear. Open the check valve on the injection pump return line. Check it for...

Re: carb problem
Given the age of the machine, there is a good chance the carb has been apart several times. Is it possible a prior owner could have lost some vital piece(s) or put in some off pieces(say from another carb, tractor etc). Going through a exploded parts break down with a fine tooth comb maybe a good id...

? To Lavoy. Do the Dubuque carbs have passages that can be stubborn and need cleaned with a drill bit(by hand) like the Waterloo carbs can be known. Bruce

Re: carb problem
I have had condensers do weird stuff as well. My JD 630 had a lean issue with throttle, lots of troubleshooting later, I changed the condenser with an NOS (USA made) one. No more issues. Maybe it can store a charge at slow idle but no faster ??
