Re: 450B transmission

Proper adjustment and removing as much slop in the pin/clevises are where I would start. I agree with Lavoy, the proper owners manual, parts manual and the service manual are a must.

Re: JD 450C final drive sprocket bearings

You should not have to jack the crawler. Locate the track master pin and position the pin at approximately the 9-10 position. You will have to split the track, remove the sprocket. You can make a special hanger, pictured in the tech manual, to lift and pull the final drive off. Best regards, Bruce

Re: PTO shift lever

Stan's trailing attachment comment is simply a different way to describe or explain a pull-type piece of equipment using the drawbar, drawbar pin and implement tongue/trailing attachment.

Re: reverser oil flow question

Sounds like you have found your problem or a least some parts of your problem. Vermin have definitely been busy. One can only guess how they got the acorn in the system, maybe the system had been open at one time? I have had personal friends tell me about nuts, seeds and nesting inside a cooling sys...

Re: 6 volt change to 12 volt

I agree with all that Stan has stated. Yes, 6 volt systems started as pos ground. May have have been changed to neg ground. To provide concise instructions, I wanted to know the systems current configuration. Best regards, Bruce

Re: 450C Hydraulic pump

Yes, I have replaced the pump. You may be tempted to remove the pump without removing the hardnose. To save yourself, it is easier to remove the hard nose and then work on the pump. Bruce

Re: oil leaking from steering clutch housing

Must be leaking from the clutch pressure manifold, part # T41473. There are a couple of o rings inside this manifold that are likely the problem.

Re: 450 B or C? New Member

Nothing wrong with reprints of the originals. I try to find originals, but that is just my opinion. Three manuals that are important are: technical manual, parts manual and owners manual. Send an email to this forums owner(Lavoy) to get access to this sites dedicated photo server. You can read about...

Re: 450 B or C? New Member

Welcome to the forum, The SN plate for the B and C series has two rivets holding an aluminum tag to the front side of the left box. Most of the 450's I have seen without the tag will have the SN stamped into the steel box directly under the area where the tag should be. If the box has no tag and bee...

Re: Now have a 78 JD350C

Hello Stan, I have read about your family's original crawler. It was nice to see pics of it. It presents nicely in the pics, nicest original I have seen in quite a while. I had 2 420C for quite a few years one was a outside mount ATECO blade, 5 spd, reverser, 5 roller with a complete 3 point(bought ...

Re: jd440ic charging issues & hyd cyl issues

I may have suggested this before, but here we go. I have not owned or worked on your specific levers. I have seen pics before the whole pic disaster happened. In non-critical apps we have used a center punch to "knerl" both mating surfaces. This may tighten your levers. Jim and others have good advi...

Re: I Bought a New Toy

Does the straight 450 have the small fuel transfer pump in the right side of the engine just in front of the starter? This pump has a small oring that fails and can send fuel directly to the engine oil on 450C. These transfer pumps easily replaced or rebuilt(if they are the old style). Bruce
