Re: 420C Oil Pump Set Screw Question

Thanks for the replies. The screw broke off below the face of the block, so there are not a lot of threads holding the screw. Tight now, but don't want chance it. I will see if I can get something through the drain hole and hold the pump up that way.

Thanks.

420C Oil Pump Set Screw Question

I need to replace the oil pump set screw and the cover cap (broken off by an old dump rake tine caught in track pad). I can get the old set screw out; the question is can I hold the oil pump in place by keeping the distributor shaft tight in rotation against the slot at the top of the oil pump so it...

'57 420w Dual Stage Clutch Alignment Tool

Checking in for some help. When moving the 420w out of the way of the 420C steering clutch replacement project, an adjusting screw in the 420W's pressure plate snapped, and I had to split the tractor to replace it. I need an a two stage clutch alignment tool to get things back together. I posted on ...

Headlight Gasket Source

Anybody have suggestions for gaskets for 40/420 headlight lenses between the glass lens and the retainer band? Trying to avoid the caulk/roofing cement approach.

Thanks,

Re: Diagnose the problem??

Try looking a your fuel bowl and the filter screen. Might have stirred up some crud in the bowl or from the bottom of the tank with the steep grade and it got caught up in the screen. Also, I have found that long steep grades can lead to fuel starvation if you are low on fuel.

Re: Logging Arch for my 40c?

If you do a search on John Deere’s #100 Log Arch, it might give you some ideas. The were made specifically for the 420/430/440 crawlers in tandem with the Gearmatic 8A winch. It basically moves the winch mounted arch onto a set of wheels, with a roller pulley and the fairleads mounted up high on a “...

Re: Governor Removal

Added note: the wear is coming from the weights making contact with the timing gear.

Re: Governor Removal

Based on Lavoy's encouragement, I went for it. Well that was fun. Very high coefficient of suckage. Sticking my head in a bag of bees would have been better. Fortunately the black flies are now out in mass which added to the fun. I did not have the opportunity to drop the thrust washer into the pan....

Governor Removal

Hi Folks. Looking for some insight on removal of the governor on a 420C. RPMs ramped up (screaming) and stayed there while skidding out the last tree of the season. The linkages are fine, so anticipate the weights are stuck/internal issue. The crawler is a ways up n the woods, hooked onto the log ar...

Re: Any early 1929-30 model a experts out there?

Notmeu, The F series name was first used by Ford for their trucks starting in 1948 (F1, F2,,,,F6) The F-150 name wasn't used until 1975. The front wheel on the A in the picture is 1928-1929 wheel. The rear wheel is a mid thirties Ford wheel. A lot of As were converted to juice brakes, away from the ...

Re: Looking for log arch - 1010

Mike,

Based on your post, you’re not looking for a pull behind arch like the JD 100 arch, but an integral arch that mounts directly to the the rear and above the winch on the 1010 ?

Model 100 Log Arch Info

I have been using a JD 100 log arch behind a 420C with a Gearmatic 8A winch. It works well and the added benefit of keeping the load weight off of the finals, unlike the integral arch, helps I think. Does anyone know the history of the 100 Series and larger arches? Not sure when JD started offering ...
