bad bearing in jd450 transmission

Before putting everything back together, I pulled the top plate high enough off my transmission to look down into it. the front bearing where transmission shaft goes through housing is shot. I can see part of the ball bearing keepers busted and at least 2 of the balls missing. I suspect this is part...

replacing alternator belt

thanks for all the tips.
I was able to work the yoke forward enough for the hydro pumpshaft to clear from the dive pulley on motor, for the belt to come through.

Not sure if that was the intent of the pivoting yoke, but it worked.

Yeah!

Changing alternator belt

The problem is the the yoke will not allow the splined shafts to pull ann farther away from the half of the shaft/pulley that us,attached to front of engine. This set up looks very much like a parts picture ice seen where ae...

picture of yoke and Alternator Belt removal

see the attached picture, and offer advice please. I have the belt above the right side of shaft yoke now, but no room on left side. I am unsure how to move the yoke to left without breaking something. Additionally, this "yoke" looks very worn to me, but I've no picture of a new one to compare to. S...

hardnose removed - now how to replace fanbelt

Thanks! My thoughts exactly about the fan belt. "Easy" I thought now that I have hard nose and radiator off. Wrong. They sure don't make 'em like they use to....and I sure am glad. This is like a Chinese puzzle. I really would like to replace the alternator belt without having to disassemble the few...

How to check filters

I want to do a post mortem on some CA is terrible filters from my 450.
What is best way to get filter out of metal can? I know I could use saws all, but that would get metal in the filter and foul up my post mortem.
Thanks

Jd450 HLR safety issue

Thanks for all the good info bere. I do want to re-emphasize some specific about this incident: - I was sitting in seat when this happened - both shifters were in neutral - the safety flap that ensures HLR is in neutral was properly in position - I don't remember if I had the foot clutch depressed o...

jd450 straight with motor going down

I have a 450 straight that I just purchased. When it gets warm/hot, the oil pressure goes to near zero at idle. I feel like it is a short time before I will have to replace or rebuild motor. Dittos for Transmission. 30-40 minutes of work and it starts shifting sluggish and acting as if slipping. Any...

dont mess with Liquid Nitrogen

Stan, you are quite right about Liquid Nitrogen. It is very dangerous stuff. Spilling on oneself would be tantamount to spilling napalm on oneself. A droplet splattered in eye and that eye can be kissed goodbye. Also my memory from 50 years ago is probably not quite accurate. My dad probably did not...
