Re: Clutch on JD450C

If I'm reading the responses from you people that obviously know more than me correctly , it sounds like I may have a stuck clutch. If so , how can I "unstick" it ???? The dozer had sat for awhile before I purchased it . How long I don't know! Mountainman To add to your confusion: just re-built a 4...

Re: Buying Guidance

Hi Pop Pop,
Tried to talk the wife into a new barn (#3). She was disinclined to offer an affirmative response.....unless I provided her with a new diamond necklace. No new barn :(

Re: 450C how to bar over engine?

Several ways: bump it with the starter(amazon has a remote start device especially for this. Snap-On makes a real nice one) or grasp and rotate lower pulley at front. If you are going to re-use the old liners you need to make some hold downs to hold them on place in the block. You will also need the ...

Re: Virginia 450 Help

Granted I have never worked on a 450, but on all two cylinder crawlers, 1010, 2010, and 350, the foot brake pedal actuates both brake bands. Looking at a 450 straight book, there is a cross shaft from the brake pedal to the LH side, and a brake lever and linkage to actuate the left brake in conjunc...

Re: Virginia 450 Help

I GOT IT FIXED! I found detent. I think that bolt was gummed up from brake dust and dirt. Anyway detent seemed to magically appear and was able to get more turns out of the adjuster bolt. Then readjusted the lever adjustment and started making progress did it all again with a little more shim under...

Buying Guidance

People say to me "Amos how do you find these deals?!". I work hard is how. For every piece of equipment I buy to fix or use I pass on 10 to 15 other units that exceed my comfort zone. Lots and lots of reasons but usually it's obvious: a piece of equipment priced at high retail that is just run out. ...

It's ALIVE!!!

The little yanmar I've been wrenching on is making noise like a tractor again! Been through 3 cold to warm cycles today and running just like a zero hour engine should. Bad news is I spent another $500.00 today for front tires and some more parts to finish it up. Sill under 3700.00 for a sweet tract...

Ok and so the linkage goes across and both bands are used at once for the pedal brake right?
On older equipment no. Engages right brake band only. Foot brake is the parking brake.

Re: Virginia 450 Help

Thanks Amos Cylinders sound like a beast. You can see on mine where someone struggled at one time or another with the spanner. I found a guy that will replace the bands and fix the cylinders. He said ¨sometimes they are a bear¨ Ok on detent - something like that is what I thought it meant BUT I fee...
