Re: old road grader

If video link is correct it looks like an mid 30's McCormick/Deering (maybe) Model A engine not original(maybe) but the lines and layout seem to match MD machine of the era.If you solve the mystery be sure to let us know.

A Taxing Situation

My least favorite time of year is fast approaching. Tax Time. Ugh.I believe in paying my fair share to support the good ol' U.S.A. but usually have a differing opinion as to what "fair share" is.Over half of my earnings going to state and local taxes(SALT) as well as federal income tax? That is pret...

Re: thinking newer truck

Thanks Amos, Picked up a 2000 F-350 Dually Diesel today. Will be installing a 30k gooseneck hitch. I think it'll be ok as I'm not going anywhere far or fast. Just local hauling since our public works department wants us to keep the metal crawler tracks off the pavement. Need to haul from the storag...

Re: 450C idler

"Split" type is OEM Solid will work just fine. You will probably find the bolts to be seized. Saturate with your penetrating oil of choice and let set overnight.Tap with good sized hammer then saturate again and tap again and let set overnight again. Then try to bust loose. If it is still tight you ...

Re: Alternator question on 410 TLB

Morning Stan, When the new one comes in and I verify it is correct and working I'll break down the old one and see what is going on.You sound right on overheat and diodes going bad: I have minimal history on the machine since seller was not at all honest about recent use and condition(bought this on...

Re: Lugs down motor in reverse

Above 32 degrees I wouldn't worry with more than a normal 3-5 minute warm up. Sounds more like a plugged tranny screen/filter. Look through tracks on right side about centerline near the top roller. You will see a 3 bolt cover flange(from memory and could be four bolt).Right above the skid plate. Th...

Re: Alternator question on 410 TLB

Well,it wasn't the $86.00 John Deere voltage regulator. Had less voltage output with new regulator than I did with old regulator. Major bummer.Removed alternator and had it tested and it failed.Ordered new alternator(with regulator installed:have spare now) from Mr.E-Bay($98.00 Grrrrrrrr) and it wil...

Re: Alternator question on 410 TLB

Hi Stan, Thanks for your input. More I think on it and with no voltage read at the 2 wire harness(feed for idiot light) and with 13+ volts from alternator to regulator the more I'm leaning toward regulator being OOC. That little regulator is "ONLY" $86.00 at my JD construction dealer.Argh..... Hate ...

Alternator question on 410 TLB

Down to last fix on my 410-D TLB. Idiot light for charging system won't go out.Battery is at 12.1 volts at the terminals. At the alternator the voltage regulator is mounted on the back of it. There are 3 wires for the regulator plus a 2 wire harness. Looking at the back and looking forward the left ...

Shock and Awe

Wife is from the Philippines(island with high humidity and near equator. They don't use heat:ever) and even after 5 years she can't get use to the static shock in winter :D Gas heat dries the air something fierce and even with a 3 gallon humidifier the electrons are just a jumping.Keiver the cat nuz...

Re: Year of machine

Not really. Older machines can and are usually a mishmash of add on parts. If you take a digital pic of the serial number plate and then view on computer it may be more visible. I've also done the pencil rub on paper trick and had luck with that.Put a clean piece of paper on the plate and rub with a...

Re: thinking newer truck

Hi Don, The 450B with backhoe should be around 17,000+ pounds. Way too heavy for a bumper pull behind a pick up in my humble opinion.Trailer should be either a triple axle with singles having either 7000 or 8000 pound axles or dual tandems with 10,000 pound axles.Watch trailer length as each foot of...

Re: I like to weld it,weld it...

One of our wrecks made the video feed for Good Morning America this morning. 18 wheeler pulling a 48' loaded flat bed sliding backwards down a hill and taking out a signal light pole. That happened about 2 miles from my house by our high school.
Nobody hurt so is funny to watch.

Re: I like to weld it,weld it...

Morning dtoots, Was crazy yesterday. After getting to work I had to make a bank deposit and check mail. City apparently has no source for sand so the were spreading dirt and red clay on the streets in hilly areas. Just about useless. My poor fellow Texans were all over the roads, ditches, right of ways...

Re: I like to weld it,weld it...

8 degrees this morning. That be pretty cold for north east Texas.Had 50+ birds and a half dozen squirrels at the bird feeder and everyone was getting along: too cold for arguing over the bird seed.Supposed to be 66 for Saturday high.
