Re: Front Idler
Did you replace the idler or just the bearings? I need an idler for a 450 straight and need a source.

Re: Oil on brakes
I've got the clutch and brake out and will replace the brake and the seal on the final drive but that seal on the ring gear looks like a major job. Don't know if that's where the oil is coming from, I hope not. Not sure I want to tackle that.

Oil on brakes
Is there any way oil can get to the brakes other than through the final drive housing on a 450 straight with dry clutches?

Re: JD 450 Hydraulic steering booster
Yep, I got it but had to take them out twice. Those seals can easily get twisted.

Re: JD 450 Hydraulic steering booster
I just went thru the same thing. The seal kit includes everything except #11 (p/n T24781). You can order it separately at your JD deal for $2. The information in the parts manual is incorrect.

Re: Power steering boosters
Got the boosters back out yesterday, one was leaking and I found that one of the seals was twisted in it's groove. Another thing I found was a kink in a hose I had used to replace a section of the steel line that runs from the power steering pump to the boosters. The original steel line had rubbed a...

Power steering boosters
I just rebuilt the power steering boosters on my straight 450 but there's no power assist that I can tell. I think the pump is ok because I can see fluid flowing in the reservoir. There is also some binding in on lever. I have the 2064 manual but it doesn't include section 145 which includes the reb...

Re: Leaking injectors
Checked out my crawler today and think I found the problem. I disconnected the return line at the first injector and fuel started running out which made me wonder if that should happen. Then I blew air into the line toward the fuel tank. I could hear the air going into the tank and when I stopped no...

Re: Leaking injectors
Didn't get a chance to look at it today but hopefully will tomorrow. I'll give an update on what I find and maybe a picture.

Re: Leaking injectors
The crawler starts and runs fine but fuel is puddling at the base of the injectors and running down the side of the engine. I just pressure washed the engine and I'm going to start it tomorrow and watch it to see it I can find the source of the leak.

Re: Leaking injectors
Thanks for the replies. I'll check them again. The original injectors were leaking somewhere so I put new grommets on them but that made no difference. So I bought new injectors with new grommets. The leak is still there. Everything is tight. Is it possible that the return line is blocked causing ba...

Leaking injectors
I've got a straight 450 crawler that is leaking fuel where the injectors fit in the head. When I found it was leaking I asked a friend who does a lot of heavy equipment repair and he said it was more likely leaking from the return lines and suggested replacing the rubber O rings for the return lines...

Power steering
I've got a straight 450 dozer with a power steering problem. Much more effort is required when turning to the right. I've had the right clutch and brake out recently and replaced some broken springs in both brakes and I know that all of the linkages are moving ok. There does appear to be some small ...
