Did you remember to open the throttle plate fully?

Re: 440ic Grinding on left when turning right.. PLEASE HELP
Have you checked to see if you are rubbing against the safety block located just in front of the drive sprocket? If you are something is out of alignment on your track.

Re: Need help with rewiring- going to Pertronix Ignitor and Pertronix Coil
Jim,B is correct with his description of wiring the Pertronix igniter. Definitely do not connect a ground to the negative side of the coil, you will bypass the module and the coil will never fire. As far as the alternator you do have a three wire alternator, it wires as follows, one ten gauge wire g...

Re: 420c not shifting into gear
You are correct about the bolts. I did not take any pictures,I was working alone. Also put it back together the same way. Again it was about a half hour to put it back in
Good luck,

Re: 420c not shifting into gear
Hope this doesn’t come to late. I had to remove the engine from my 420c in the woods last year. Because I usually look at problems backward instead of lifting the engine out I let it down. The equipment used,a six foot 2x12 a floor jack and 2 comealongs also some 9/16x8” bolts with the heads cut off...

Re: 440IC Wont run w/o choke 1/2 on
Marvel, zenith and stromberg updraft carburetors all have a similar problem as they age. Because of the way these carbs are built they tend to warp at the joint between the upper half and the bowl. This warppage can cause an air leak at this joint that is very hard to identify. My common practice now ...

Re: 6 volt change to 12 volt
Sorry for the lateness of my follow up. The coil/resistor resistance has nothing to do with points versus electronics. Total resistance has to do with firing voltage at the spark plugs and wether it will reliably jump the gap. As an example I purchased a tractor that had been converted to 12v that a...

Re: 6 volt change to 12 volt
I have bought three pieces of equipment cheap because they had bad 12v conversions. Most do not understand that just adding a resistor to the coil is not the proper way to assure proper firing voltage. Which resistor do you add, 1.5ohm,3ohmor 5ohm. Depends on the voltage and type of coil constructio...

New to the forum
First time posting as a newbie. Actually, I have been following the forum for a few years. I am the proud owner of a 420 with a franklin loader. The 420 ran great for a few years. Then expensive noises. Just before Christmas 2017 the governor exploded. While finishing the engine rebuild I found an i...
