Re: John Deere 350 bulldozer sudden shut down

Run a wire directly from the injection pump to the battery. There should be some type of wire(s) already connected to the injection pump, unhook those and ensure you have a single wire to the positive battery stud. This method bypasses the key switch or button…or both in terms of the pump being read...

Re: AT36097 Seal install

Just an update if anyone else does this repair. AT36097 is the correct seal for basically all of the 350 crawlers The fuel tank and either or both battery box and hydraulic reservoir will need to be removed. This is due to the clutch housing plates, which are partially located underneath these parts...

Re: AT36097 Seal install

Thanks for the bad news fellas… I did notice two 9/16 bolt heads where the cap would be. I wonder if those bolts hold the housing or “pocket” somehow and maybe that entire apparatus comes out together. Without seeing the pictures in the TM I’m just guessing and I wouldn’t think the drive splin...

AT36097 Seal install

I’m getting ready to do this seal for a 350C with a fluid leak at the spindle. This will be my first repair on a C model and I’ve done several of these thru the years on the B models. I didn’t think much about the seal install when I ordered the part, but after looking at the final drive on this wet...

Re: 350B steering clutch pilot bearing question

I used 4 5/8 bolts that were 10” long to slide the final back out to visually inspect the shaft. It was fully installed thru the clutches, so I good. Only took 5 minutes.

Maybe this will help someone in the future that experiences the same thing.

Re: 350B steering clutch pilot bearing question

Thanks for the response Leonard. I didn’t have the other side off, so based on what you’ve said those axels should be butted up to each other. If there is no room for movement then I’d say I’m good. I do the install as you mentioned with two 5/8 bolts. I’ll wait for some more input from anyone who m...

350B steering clutch pilot bearing question

I re installed my final drive today and felt like it slid into place way to easy. I’m afraid the drive shaft T20731 did not seed into the pilot bearing cup like it should have. I sometimes install the shaft into transmission first and then install the final drive second to give myself enough space t...

Re: Coolant in all 3 cylinders

Both sides of the middle cylinder at the thinnest location. Should have caught it right away, but was curious about the coolant being in the cylinders. The cracks did become more evident after the engine cooled and the air temp dropped.

Thing was probably ran very hot I would imagine.

She opened up a little bit last night when the temps dropped below freezing and it’s evident I have a cracked block…time to drop my spare engine in there…

Re: Coolant in all 3 cylinders

Something else I just realized…i did not remove the lower radiator hose before removing the head. This probably created a situation where the head had coolant in it that could have drained into the cylinders. I did remove some housing from the head that drained quite a bit of coolant, but I figure m...

Coolant in all 3 cylinders

350 B with the 3-152 engine I pulled the head today and found that all 3 cylinders have coolant in them. Both the head and water pump have been replaced by the previous owner. Coolant in the oil isn’t a new thing…gasket, head, block and the problem is usually found. But with all 3 cylinders full I’m...

My opinion it is much like oil, filters you buy today are much better than they were 40 years ago. I think any quality filter will do and I typically run Baldwin or Wix.
