Re: parts
I tracked down the parts diagram and I think I see what it is. I didn't realize there was a shaft that had two splines. One end (I assume the 6t end) goes into the drive coupling (AT11426T). The other end goes into the coupling (T11751T). So I think I did order the right coupling, but I guess you ne...

Re: parts
After reading your post about the 6 spline, I wonder if I ordered the right coupler. Is the 6 spline on the engine or the pump? I could have swore both sides of mine were more than 6 splines. Don't have it handy right now to look at though.

Re: parts
I'm having the same exact problem and I'm trying to adapt a pump. Haven't got all the parts yet, so I don't know if it will work, but here's what I went with for a pump: http://www.surpluscenter.com/Brands/Cessna/1-54-cu-in-Cessna-26010LZC-Hydraulic-Pump-9-4441-D.axd I apparently got the last one at...

440icd hydraulic pump
So I was just out using my 440icd. Put the blade down, pushed a small pile of firewood. Went to raise the blade and nothing. Controls didn't feel like there was any hydraulic pressure. No leaks. Pulled what I believe is the supply line coming from the pump and fired up the dozer. Only fluid coming o...

Re: 440icd cold weather starting (part 2)
After going all through the adjustments in my manual, it runs like a top. I think the big thing was the bolt that the fuel rod rocker arm pivots on. It was just too tight, causing the governor to not respond fast enough.

Re: 440icd cold weather starting (part 2)
Well, good news. Took the head down to the local diesel shop and it's fixed. Valve seats were really pitted. They rebuilt the head and it starts almost immediately. Now for the bad news. It doesn't seem to have the power it had, which I think I've gotten figured out to be governor adjustment, so I'm...

Re: 440icd cold weather starting (part 2)
If you had the intake ports partially exposed, the air leak out, or at least enough to not give you an accurate reading. If it is the exhaust valves, that much leakage would be easy to hear coming out the manifold. Lavoy It definitely had leakage out the exhaust. Not only could I hear it, but could...

Re: 440icd cold weather starting (part 2)
Did you make sure the pistons were up far enough to cover the ports in the sleeves prior to testing? Lavoy I did attempt to roll it over with the starter as close as I could get to having the piston up. It was fairly close, but probably not all the way up. Would that matter in the case of testing f...

440icd cold weather starting (part 2)
I posted awhile back about my 440icd being hard to start in cold weather, and then I found out one cylinder had really low compression. I bought a leak down tester and here's what I found. Immediately after hooking up the leak down tester, I could hear air coming out of the exhaust. And the leak dow...

So I finally had some time to look at compression. The #1 cylinder looked like it had decent compression. I forgot to write it down, but I think first stroke had a little less than 200 and after a few cranks it was about 350. #2 is giving me problems. It will barely move the needle on the compressio...

Hi, I was not using single quotes, but something was fouling things up there. I am not sure what. My fear is that the engine compression is low to begin with. That will also make for hard starting as it will have trouble making enough heat to ignite diesel. Stan That was on my list of things to tes...

Danged debug mode! Haha, yeah, I noticed that. Can not use single quotes, so I have to rewrite my posts. I work in the software field and a single quote is kind of a special character when saving data to a database. Anyway, back to the issue. It does make sense if the starter does not have the powe...

Spray the ether lightly after you start cranking the engine. I think the ether actually expands in the cylinders causing more, and sometimes, too much compression. I tried both spraying before cranking as well as spraying while already cranking. Neither works. It will be spinning over fast without ...
