Well, now I don't have to ask why there were two digitups and they both seemed pretty smart :?

Yup, they are cast steel on my 1010. If you dig around on the site you'll find a post where Lavoy said they were cast steel. I welded the repair end onto the steering lever and it sure wasn't cast iron. Lavoy also posted his test for steel vs iron using a grinder. I had to shape the end to create a ...

I would think that if the ether had done it in, it'd be pretty much toast. As to a damage assessment, I'd warm it up and do a normal compression test. If the compression tests low, run the engine and check for ring blow-by at the oil fill tube. If it doesn't seem to be blowing by, pretty much got to...

I'd have to agree with the assessment that those track frames are not repairable. I wonder if there may be some old 350 parts machines in Germany. I can't image what freight shipping would be from the US but there are plenty of 350 track frames here.

Jim, I'm not going to be much help as the early 1010C and 1010CA had a free floating elbow with no drilled ear. I looked at the parts book myself when I saw your post and I don't see any reference to a bolt to attach the elbow. Kinda makes you wonder if it really is just free floating. I wonder if D...

The steering levers are actually cast steel Ray. It makes it a ton easier to weld.

I'm with Lavoy on this one. You're just going to end up with a real mess if you try welding it and it's apparent that the crack extends around the corner up against the transmission case. It's a bit hard to tell in the photo but it looks like it's already displaced a little on either side of the cra...

It's a low pressure grease gun that was supplied with the Deere crawlers. There are a number of posts on this topic around the site but Lavoy has previously posted that the best way to go is use a pistol grip type gun and feeling for the slightest resistance when filling the rollers. I'm still looki...

Check this post Brett. There's a couple of helpful links. I don't think the starter is a particular problem.

A conversion to negative ground and upgrade to an alternator is a good idea. I forgot about that one although I've already done it on my IH2606 TLB project. Good catch!

Interesting indeed. It's from the 1010 Gasoline Agricultural Crawler Tractor Operator's Manual, OM-T15502. I can't find a date in it anywhere but the photos all show the early version control placements so I'm guessing it's an earlier version. The parts book doesn't show any change in heads or gaske...

My book says 7.6:1 so Lavoy's pretty close. I gotta tell you; this engine isn't that good to start with so don't go thinking you're going to get more out of it without huge problems shortly thereafter. If it's weak, then rebuild it to stock specs. From the looks of it, it can be a decent engine but ...

I've given that a bunch of thought and if I had it to do over again, I would start by not getting a 1010 and have either gotten a 440 or ponied up a bit more money and gotten a 350. All that being said, if I was going to turn my 1010 into an everyday worker, I'd swap out as much as I could of the un...

Well, this guy on eBay is definitely a character. I no sooner posted this and he finally replied to the first email I sent him regarding what happened to the item I bought last month. I had just received it but with the cracked off bolt bosses. I told him that I could appreciate the fact that you co...

You're right Andrew. My parts book for the 610 blade lists an optional 90" blade in addition to the standard 72" blade.

Congrats on selling the crawler Lostit!
