I think I'm going to make the drive over. Probably just coming over for one of the days but not sure which one yet. Lavoy, I'll drop you an email with my cell number but you should already have it on the bottom of one of my emails.

I just welded the piece of track frame Lavoy sent me onto the front of the right side frame. I ground a vee on both pieces and welded it with 7018. It turned out really good and I doubt you'll be able to see the repair once I'm done. I started using 7018 when I was welding some 1045 medium carbon st...

Welcome to the JDcrawlers board volvo guy. It's great when we get new members from "across the pond." If you can tell us a little more about yourself and your collection, there's a bunch of folks on here much more experienced than myself that can steer you toward some good machines. Is there some pa...

Seems like the way to go if you're going to do this out of PVC is to get a length of 2.5" Schedule 80 pipe rather than starting with a bar. The dimensions of the Sch. 80 is ID of 2.29" and OD 2.875". Schedule 80 2.5" pipe looks to sell in the $5 per foot range. It's a little small for the knurled gr...

Although I haven't actually bought anything from Ed, I'd have to say that returning phone calls and emails isn't his strength. That being said, it's probably more a matter of him getting out to pull the part off the wreck he knows it's on than it is any attempt to defraud you. You're really at no ri...

Dan,

If you've got somebody that can do it for you, that's probably the best way to go. I'd be happy to give you cost if he's too busy or if anybody else needs one. Thanks Dan.

Well, I'm on pretty unfamiliar ground here having never actually ever made a mistake personally. Seriously, I'm guessing at the point you find yourself that the only way to get back to where you started is to rotate the engine to top dead center of the compression stroke for the number 1 cyli...

Cool. I found the "cheese wiz" style can for $21 a couple of places on the internet and some short caulking tubes for $6.50 a tube. Looks like cool stuff.

They still do Lavoy. I tried to get a quote out of them a year or so back and couldn't even get a phone or email reply. Must be great having so much business that you can just blow people off. I've always thought this thing would be easy to make if somebody was so inclined. http://www.jdcrawlers.com...

Just doesn't seem like it would be heavy enough to get the job done. Here's a couple of pictures of two different portable presses made by WTC in Waukesha, WI. Maybe it'll spark a few other ideas. The top one is a 100 ton unit and the bottom is a 150 ton. http://www.jdcrawlers.com/uploads/100tpinpus...

There's a place here in Milwaukee called Speedy Metals that does a brisk mail order business. I've gotten most of the steel for my projects from them. All the race car guys around here use them for any tube you can imagine. Web site listed below. Good guys.

There's a lot of reasons not to build your own track press. If you do a search on this board you'll find several posts on the topic. The two biggest for me were the expense and something about getting killed. There's generally somebody not too far away that does it for a living and I got my rails bo...

Well, the 1010 listing he added at $99.99 has what looks like one decent sprocket of the two. The other listing at $79.99 that he says he thinks is a 40c is actually a 420c, 430c and early 440c sprocket. The 40c or 420c sprocket is actually 40c and the 350/450 sprocket fits a 350 and 400 but not 450...
