scottmi,

I believe Lavoy still has oil seals available. I have bought Lavoy's seals in the past and they're great.

Thanks Lavoy, it's good to finally be home. I've been working out in my shop almost every day since I got back and it feels great. The 1010CA has been resting comfortably but it's time to wrap it up. I've basically just got the track rollers to finish up and then I can put the rest of it back togeth...

I've gotten a lot of mileage out of that "glowing in the dark" question over the years. I particularly liked it when girls would ask me that at parties. My stock reply was always "there's only one way you can find out honey." It has saved me a bunch of in my career. I've never had to buy a microwave...

I'm finally back home from my nuclear power plant wanderings and able to fabricate some more of these seal tools if anyone is interested. Price is still $30 plus shipping for anyone on the JDCrawlers.com message board.

It's been a while since I posted this and I believe there might be a few options out there now. I believe Lavoy can help you with these seals now too. I bought some from him a while back and I'm really pleased with them.

The two pieces that go on either end of the roller are called brackets in the parts book. The shaft has a dimple drilled on the side of both ends that the setscrew engages. The dimples are aligned with one another so if you use two setscrews, they would only line up with one of the two dimples as th...

The one on the left is a good roller with little wear. The one on the right is very worn. It's basically the same roller at two different stages of life. You want rollers that look like the left one. There were minor variations in the roller shells over the years but the same basic profile was used ...

I can sure make more if it will help. The problem with the cast steel levers is that they're really brittle and fail whenever they start getting beat around like when you're trying to get them off the steering shaft. I made this replacement end out of 1018 steel so it will take the abuse. If you'd l...

Not yet Chuck. I had a rather sudden parting of the ways with my employer last November and ended up working back in the nuclear power business again. I've been working in Kennesaw, GA and Russellville, AR for the last four months only getting home occasionally. The 1010 project has been on the back...

Welcome to the board! These guys have helped me out a bunch with my crawler projects. You couldn't have come to a better place for old Deere crawlers.

I think step one is going to be to get a parts manual for a 1010 to see what you're missing. Lavoy can help you with many parts and there multiple other suppliers as well. I'd alway start with Lavoy and go from there. There were several posts on here for parts manuals. I can't find them right now bu...

You got me Terry. I've had all the same issues you're having. The only thing that seemed to work is to keep calling and calling until I got to talk with somebody.

No sweat Pat. This isn't one of those fancy message boards that tell you that the post has been updated while you were typing a reply. In the end, it's really all Lavoy's fault.

Not sure why the link is working the way it is but, if you go to the bottom of the page, you will see a link to the Alvin Products main site (they are a US company). On the top of the main page there is a "Distributors" link where you can look by zipcode or state. In TX, it looks to be Fastenal, Pra...

I've used the technique of either sand blasting or wire brushing and then using my MIG welder to fill in the pits. Grind to original contour. Time consuming but puts metal back where metal belongs. Does go a long way toward explaining how I'm 3 years into a 1010CA restoration and it's still not done...
