Brian- If there is any doubt; tear it apart. Trust me I just went through one side and am fixin to pull the next side off. It is a big intimidating the first time through but it really isn't that bad. Just make sure you take time to clean it all up and make sure it is all put back correctly. I wonde...

Lavoy- That's what I was wondering about. Didn't know if I could grab those chains or not. Last one I did put it together with a long punch after I got it close enough, but it was in the center of the top side. I think the manual said to do it on the front idler which I tried first. Turned into a lo...

Track Jack

I don't know if that's the proper name but was wondering what others have used in the past. Having just put one track back together with out proper tools I won't do the next one the same way. I know the tool exists for tanks etc. Any thoughts on where to buy one pretty reasonably or has anyone made ...

When I say reproduction manuals I'm talking the original manuals just not from Mother Deere. I got mine from Ed Tucker and other than coming in a folder as opposed to being bound.. they are AWSOME. I too was skeptical b/c they are copies of original. Rest assured they are first class manuals... soo ...

Brian- I don't think you can purchase just sections. The whole manual is well worth it though. I purchased both the parts and service manual for our 420 and WOW... lots and lots of good info. The parts manual is just as helpful as the service manual. I have information on where to get reproductions ...

Ok I'll check that again in the morning. I think it's good from my playing with it but I will check it again for sure. Looks like it may be Mon. afternoon before I get to slide the final in now. Welder is dragging his feet and looks like a ride to the beach is required by the boss.. on Sunday! Ohh w...

Steering clutch adjustment.

Getting ready to reassemble the final to the steering clutch housing hopefully tomorrow evening. I have adjusted the clutch fingers per Lavoy's suggested .800". Question is should I go ahead and adjust the throw out bearing all the way out since the clutch was originaly set at ~1.150". My logic is i...

61 blade question

Finally getting my 420 back together! Got the clutch housing mounted and side plate today. Also got the foot rest installed. Went to mock up the blade lift support (part that holds the top of the lift cylinder. The one that came off of it was badly mangled and the bottom cast piece that wraps the cr...

Country-

Glad you are having fun on you lil 420. One of the first things I did with ours was dig out an old apple stump.. it was cut off about 5" above grade. The tree was probably 20-25 years old. It's amazing what these lil crawlers will do if you apply them properly.

Dan- I've been going through a real ordeal myself on a 420C involving removing finals etc. Then inital plan was to tighten the carriage caps that hold the undercarriage to the cross shafts. Way more work than greasing the rollers and tightening 16 bolts. It's been a snowball and at first I was lil m...

If I'm not mistaken the holes are for key switch, fuse, and cigar lighter.

I have the wrong dash in our 420 so I'm not 100% sure. I 'll look at the books in the shop today and make sure.

Bent- What fun would it be to find a nice crawler. Seems every hour or two I spend working ours I know it'll be another hour working on it.. well maybe not that bad. I admitt we've ignored some problems for fear of the unknown and have since dove in head first. Hopefully I'll be clearing land againg...

Neat looking lil crawler. From what I've found on them and read they've been used for about everything.. never thought about a pipe layer model though!
