Gil,

Great points, and likely the reason the hood was off when he found it.
The gas hood would not fit so they just left it off once they swapped in the DD engine.

Is that a 3-53 DD that you have for sale?
You may get some interest on here but may want to try other boards that are for old DD engines.

Since both clutch packs seem to be pulling well, it would be the steering brakes that hamper turning with a load.

Expensive paint job. Anyone with just half of a brain working part of the time can determine that a 50 + year old piece of equipment has more than 4,000 + hours on it. Engine rebuild is not too expensive and parts are available from Lavoy.
It really depends on what is wrong inside as to the total parts cost. You may get by with an inframe rebuild, or you may need other parts and machine shop work.
