Re: JD450 Hard Nose Removal

BTW, while I've got it open and working on it like this, I have a cover over the exhaust stack, but do I need to worry about tarping/covering things from the weather? I'm in Pacific Northwest, so mostly talking rain.

Re: JD450 Hard Nose Removal

I have 2 pieces of 4" angle that I use for loader arm locks and one piece that I lay across the arms that I pull the nose with. I use a come a long hooked to a small chain thru the hole you check radiator fluid. If the loader is running, I pull the nose put it down and backup 10 feet and it's out o...

Re: JD450 Hard Nose Removal

Safety first . If you are going to have your loader raised while you do this, use a safety support on at least one of the lift cylinder rams so it can't come down on you! If you don't currently have a support, get some heavy angle iron or have some 5/16" or 3/8" plate bent and make one. If your not...

Re: JD450C - What engine do I have? Need to source filters

It will do for now. "Down the road" I expect you will want to make a steel support to go on a lift ram, it will be quicker and easier to use. Is the petcock stripped in the radiator threads or inside itself? Fantastic idea on the steel support!! Still not sure on the petcock. Work like a charm the ...

Re: JD450C - What engine do I have? Need to source filters

Is your loader raised? Do you have a solid safety support under it? If not that is the first thing you need to take care of. Loader is raised an supported https://sc9vfg.bn.files.1drv.com/y4mOI5D_L11c9-CKef7Ea7Z5RQImMdvklaAQn3wzpGxerwcCNBzfbDpVf8L7FB8RqTYpO5ZobRA_0hdSyQSFTMOgwyFhy50_DuJJcZd68d6CG31...

Re: JD450C - What engine do I have? Need to source filters

Hi Chris, Those are the filter numbers for a 450 direct from the parts catalog, unless I transposed a number. Like Bruce said I think your engine tag is missing, the attached photos is a 4276 engine but the tags are in the same location. I don't know if you can tell the difference in the 202 and 21...

Re: JD450C - What engine do I have? Need to source filters

Do you need to remove the nose completely. If you remove all fasterners but the metal straps with bolts on both sides of both right and left frame rails. These straps act as a pivot point and lets the nose tips forward quite a few degrees, giving looks of room for most projects. Bruce I need to gai...

Re: JD450C - What engine do I have? Need to source filters

I believe your engine is JD 300 series. I think 4219. Definitely not turbo. Your engine is missing it’s aluminum SN tag, it is held with 2 rivets between the alternator and the fuel filters. The number cast in the block is JD part number for block identification not a SN. As stated earlier, dealers...

Re: JD450C - What engine do I have? Need to source filters

Wow guys (Bruce and Jim)!!...I could have not asked for more thorough informaiton and this certainly gets me started in the right direction. Sounds like the engine is either the factory 4202 or a 4219...still need to get to the bottom of that one. I am now attempting to remove the hard nose, hopeful...

JD450 Hard Nose Removal

About to jump outside in the weather and remove the hard nose on my (I "think" it is a 1968 straight 450 :? ). Are there any suggestions (i.e. tips/tricks) for a newbie on how to do this? It looks like 6 bolts and I will need an engine hoist or another tractor to lift it off safely? Is there a right...

Re: JD450C - What engine do I have? Need to source filters

I think you better be careful about calling it a 450c i think its a 450 the 450C i believe has it on the plate as a 450C C I think you're right scampr. Of course it was sold to me as a "450C", but I think that's a dubious way to say...oh ya...I meant a 450 Crawler! :). I just posted the serisl numb...
