The dowels are threaded all the thru and I screwed a bolt outside to inside in the dowel,used a big hammer to drive out thru the drawbar.It was easier to swing hammer that way,but nothing goes exactly right till I get a little blood flow.,Tim

1 15/16 inch wrench should fit the one just smaller than 2 inches.I have not found any crow feet that will not stretch under a lot of torque.

parts catalog says roll pin is 3/16x1 5/8.

The main driveshaft that splines into trans input has a roll pin or another type pin to keep the shaft from moving back and forth during use.remove that pin and shaft should move fwd to uncouple trans.then you should lift it up and out of frame.Rats nest above trans shaft has it rusted up pretty goo...

My crawler,40c has bushings that mate trans and torque tube together which are installed in the bolt holes the mount bolts go thru.could be corroded and stuck.There is a dowel pin thru the clutch shaft and trans input shaft that you can remove when you get it to move fwd about 3 0r 4 inches.Sounds l...

Yes dtoots1 is correct,patience is the key.Working on these machines will teach you patience,if not they will get in your pockets in a hurry.Be patient,hang in there and you will enjoy the fruits of your labor. The tolerances on the brake band is close on new bands. thanx Tim

I replaced both sides on my 420 couple years ago and had the same problem.With the brake bands loosened up,the bottom was catching on the bottom of the brake drum.There was a drain plug in the housing under the clutch/brake drum, removed it. My mt was doing the exact same thing.pulled starter found too much fore and aft movement on the armature.shims added on cover end and its been working ok.Also check condition of ring gear on flywheel when your starter is off.

After hours with a wire brush found the name of berco stamped in a chain link,also a pin stamped 1065 i am guessing that is a hardness stamp.searched online found a phone# for berco will give them a call tomorrow.thanks for the reply Lavoy.

I have a 40c with 14 inch pads and deep dish drive wheels.I have a question on the track pins.They are all the same with no master pins.The pins are 1.19 inch diameter on the ends that are pressed into the track chain.I can not find any numbers to posibaly cross reference to find a master pin to put...

Thank you for the suggestions engine back in and shifts great no grinding, clutch fingers adjusted per sb 2 were out.thanks for all the suggestions,Tim ,back to the brush pile tomorrow

Pulled engine this morning,and found snap ring on clutch free play adjustment missing and throw out bearing carrier cocked to one side.release bearing ruined and carrier sleeve and carrier ruined.have all parts to repair except throwout bearing.will be here from Lavoy first of week.also pressure pla...

I have a 420 engine in my 40c,had to change radiator to a 420 radiator,420 radiator bracket and throttle bracket that bolts to thermostat housing.every thing else is the same.A 430 tractor should have all that you need.Mine runs great but pulling engine to fix what broke in the clutch area.
