i'm not sure, is this a measurement of the outside diameter of the gear?

JD440 transmission wanted

Bought a JD440C in pieces, started on the transmission, but on close inspection, the gears have worn through the hard surface, so looking for a complete unit, would like a 5 speed, but 4 speed is fine, thanks for any leads.

thanks guys, i assume BFH = Big Forge Hammer ;)

we've been thinking of putting the track frame in a press, problem is pressing the bottom or opposite frame rail will require some sort of U shaped jig, so we'll probably try the old "heat and beat" treatment Lavoy recommends.

thanks for the advice Gil, am finding you are right about used rails in good shape, have had one dealer price of $450 for rails that are just about as bad shape as mine including old corroded and cracked welding. you don't mention it but i assume replacment of the wear surface requires special steel...

Sounds like this would work, we'll try this when we pull the final drives on my son's 1010C. As I recall, the rear mounting pad on a 1010C has 4 bolt holes in a 3" square bolt patten. Do you recall if any difference which bolt hole is used? And thanks for the tip.

Michael, Is fuel shutoff not available from JD dealer, and is that why you built your own? Did you try repairing yours before manufacturing a replacement? The fuel shutoff of the 2 cyl diesel in my 440IC doesn't work right and needs to be replaced or repaired, what do you charge for "Michael Manufac...

Started up the little 2 cyl diesel in my 440IC one fine weekend morning a few years ago and puttered around the barn awhile, then decided to park it and get a coffee refill. Pulled the shutoff knob, instead of shutting off, the little Jimmy started steadily revving up, when it got to a near scream, ...

The mechanic I hired to fix the final drive on my 1010C just whacked off the rail where the sprocket covers are mounted with a cutting torch then welded it back on afterwards. Which made me furious and I've never had him do work for me since. He did this of course so final drive input shaft could be...
