Re: What is equivalent to a T12592 shim.
I remember getting generic specs for o-rings from the catalog. I guess they removed the generic cross reference it so they can sell JD brand washers for $5 or $10 each plus $5 for shipping. You said that you were looking at a drawing that showed the T12952 and it looked like it's about 1/2 in thick....

Re: What is equivalent to a T12592 shim.
The method says that the aft two bolt locations get one spacer/shim each. The manual says for the front two bolt locations ".......as many as will fit". If the thickness of the shim is know, it sets the stand off distance at the aft bolt. You can futz around to set the front shim thickness like the ...

What is equivalent to a T12592 shim.
Installation of the power steering mounting brackets on a 450() calls for shimming the mounting bracket on installation. The book procedure would install at least one shim at each of the 4 locations. That will get the mounting bracket to stand off the top of the transmission. If I read the Deere par...

Re: 450() power steering.
Jim You confirmed what I was thinking with the divider. It may have been a band-aid to compensate for an undersized power steering pump. I guess it works so I can't complain. Thanks for pointing out the location of the shuttle valve in the parts manual. That got past me. It doesn't show any replacea...

Re: 450() power steering.
I found some service information in a revised shop manual for the 450(). I have a little better idea what is going on but still have questions. I am hoping to get most of the parts I need before taking things apart. Questions: There is a flow divider which feeds oil from the pump to active steering ...

Re: JD450C 1975 New Starter Motor Needed
Simple stuff first. Have you cleaned up all the wiring from the batteries to the starter? I suspect you have tried this already. You probably want to do that before installing a new starter anyway.

450() power steering.
The power steering on one side of crawler is not working. It will still steer and brake but it takes a lot of force and a lot of stick travel. The clutch release and the brakes are all adjusted per the shop manual. Before I pull the unit has anyone else had the problem and found a fix. I am not real...

Bleeding the ripper hydraulic cylinders
I need some help bleeding the ripper hydraulic cylinders. The ripper does not have much push down force when the cylinders are almost fully extended. It worked well the last time it was used. No leaks anywhere. It has a 4in1 bucket and all that works fine. Specifics: It is 450 no suffix The clamshel...

Re: Track tensioner zerk leaks
Deere parts list is now specifying a JD7828 fitting which is a button head grease fitting. I don't want another grease gun for buttonheads. I will try a Alemite or a Lincoln. The no-name fittings may be good for u-joints or ball joints but it looks like I need something that seals a lot better. Than...

Track tensioner zerk leaks
The track tension adjustment ram is leaking grease out of the zerk center fill hole. It is amazing how little grease they have to leak to let the track get too slack. Tried a couple of different ones (from the same batch) and they all leak. Does anyone know of a good, reliable brand that will hold g...

Hood latches
My 450(straight) has never had hood (cowl) latches. I have been using two shipping tie-down straps over the top and securing with a ratcheting tensioner. Is there another better solution than just holding it down with straps over the top, around the outside. It's a kluge of parts and a pita to get t...

Re: LEAKING SPOOL VALVE.
Thanks Leonard. I was hoping to find way to tracking down the part number and just doing a swap. The JD parts list is not much help. I guess I will have to take it out and find a hydraulics guy. I have a place that can supply generic seals and stuff but I don't know how they will do with hardware sp...

LEAKING SPOOL VALVE.
Hi I have a 450 straight with a Drott 4way. The bucket spool valve is leaking out the aft side of the valve. It looks like it is coming out of the diaphragm on the rear cover (bonnet cover). Boom or bucket valves, it is the same part. Is there a source where these can be purchased? Is this a standar...

Zerk fitting on track adjusters
Are these just run-of-mill zerks or are they something special. I have tried a couple brands they have all leaked. Just bad luck?
