Re: 6 wy blade rebuild

U10438 (most suffixes are dropped with the current JD numbering system) shows as No Longer Available. I don't think you meant U10428, but shows as a Tee fitting costing $70 to $85 depending on the dealer, but I did not find it shown for a 1010. A used cylinder or rod with the end on it, adapting som...

Re: 1010 Crawler Foot Brake

The service manual for the 1010 crawlers is John Deere part number SM2034. That is the publication number to look for whether you look at used originals or reprints on eBay or other sources. Jensales is another some are avoiding as well. They are selling reprints of the I&T manuals as the service ma...

Re: 1010 Crawler Foot Brake

In case you don't have a parts catalog or a link to it on line; here is the link: https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/navigation/equipment/77299 . That will at least allow you to see the parts that should be there. A service manual is what you really need to guide you through the set up and adjustme...

Re: Injector return line hose size?

It looks like the JD part number is R68281 for the bulk hose used to make those fuel return hoses. It says it has an ID of 0.156" (5/32") or 4mm. Any hose used needs to be rated for fuel oil service. Pressure will be minimal as it is an open return to the tank.

Re: j440ic new 6 blade fan

Just to rule it out, while you have it drained again, you might want to try suspending the thermostat in a pot of water and heating it. Watch the temperature of the water with a thermometer as you heat it up. It should start to open within a couple degrees of the design temperature and be full open ...

Re: j440ic new 6 blade fan

It wasn't overheating prior to the water pump failure was it? You didn't get it way hot when the pump failed did you? If the pump is the only thing changed, I would install the rebuilt pump. Do you have the right gasket(s) for it? Did you change the thermostat? Is it possible you slipped and got it ...

Re: j440ic new 6 blade fan

Paint on the belt faces of the pulley isn't going to help you. It may embed into the belt, cause dragging during adjusting, and increase slippage when running. If the pulley was backed way off it may take several adjustments to get the belt to work its way up to where it is running right and stays t...

Re: j440ic new 6 blade fan

The fan needs to be flipped if you haven't done that yet, it will not work correctly if turned the wrong way. The leading edge needs to cut into the air and scoop air back along the cupped curve of the blade. If you are setting in the seat looking at the fan, it turns counterclockwise. The belt shou...

Re: how to chain up a dozer blade

If you can get the pins out of the blade lift cylinder(s), you can remove the cylinder(s), put the pins back in, jack the blade up and use a chain (run in a loop) between the pins (on one or both sides) in place of the cylinder(s) to hold the blade up.

Re: Needing head gasket wisdom

You didn't say if it is a dozer or a loader, so I am guessing it is a dozer. As oldmetalmender mentioned use the manual. You say you don't have a reference book, aka service or technical manual, now is the time to get one. As mentioned there is more to check than just a few bolt torques, when replac...

Re: Logging cable size, need drawbar pull for 455G

Straps are definitely wrong for your application. This John Deere site has some drawbar pull info. https://www.deere.com/en/dozers/non-current-models/ It appears the drawbar pull is only shown for dozers, not the loaders. The 450G TC dozer shows a bit over 24,000 lbs. maximum. That will be affected ...

Re: MC switching to 12V

Obie, I may be out of place with this but I'm going to post it anyway. Lavoy's store provides this site for us to use and he has most any, if not all, the parts you will need to maintain your crawler. I think it is kind of rude to post you are going to purchase your parts elsewhere, after asking for...

Re: MC switching to 12V

No war on my part regarding the positive ground alternators Wayne, just poor wording on my part. In some areas I expect they are more readily available but I should have said they are not common, if you walk into a parts store around here and ask for one. There are some outfits making 6 volt alterna...

Re: MC switching to 12V

If you are changing to a 12 volt generator and regulator you can polarize the generator to positive or negative ground as you choose. If you are converting to an alternator you will likely want to convert to negative ground. Commonly used 12 volt alternators are negative ground. There are few positi...
