Re: After market engine numbers location
I guess I don't understand what you mean by an aftermarket engine. Do you mean it is not a John Deere engine? Or do you mean it is the proper size John Deere engine (4 cylinder 219 cu.in. turbocharged for a 450C) that was rebuilt by someone other than John Deere? If it is the right family JD engine,...

Re: Grease fitting size 7/16 27
Those grease zerks are pipe thread, not bolt threads. 27 pitch thread is 1/8" NPT (National Pipe Thread). If you want to plug those holes you need to get some 1/8" NPT pipe plugs.

Re: JD350C winch shaft wear?
What is the condition of the splines in the coupling that mates with it? How do the splines on the winch end and winch shaft look? Ideally, replacement I would say if the winch is critical to your operation. Occasional use, it could go a long time before it fails (splines strip). Lavoy is always the...

Re: JD350C clutch seals?
It looks to me like you have two seal rings showing in your picture, plus the one seal. The two seal rings you are looking at in that drawing are item key 13 (part # R39322) in both serial number range steering clutch drawings. They are similar to piston rings and are in the grooves of the housing i...

Re: John Deere 420c steering clutch adjustment
Assuming free play is correct as Ray III noted. Have you asked the vendor you got the clutch set up from, if they have any ideas? Sometimes you find out they have had such happen before. It’s a great feeling when they say that happens, bring it back and we’ll give you another – not. That “looks like...

Re: John Deere 420c steering clutch adjustment
Just throwing some things out for thoughts of where issues might be. What is the condition of the flywheel friction surface, glazed/burnt? Did you by chance measure the depth of it? I wonder if the clutch disc material is right and the right thickness. Possible incorrect springs in the pressure plat...

Re: Hardened Valve Seats
Lavoy will be along with his answer, but here is my 2 cents on who supplies valve seats for a machine shop doing a head, I leave it to them to get and install the seats. To me that is the way to do it. Then they are responsible for the machine work, the seats, and the installation. If a machine shop...

You didn't waste anyone's time. Glad you found the issue and it was a easy fix. On another side of this, If someone else has a similar problem you can say "check this", and maybe help them solve their problem. I have a number of those learned experiences as well.

Re: John Deere 420c steering clutch adjustment
Ok. New, used, adjusted or not has gotten mixed between the engine and steering clutches here. Engine clutch is new with new pilot and throwout bearings as I understand you now. Finger height could be off if it was not adjusted to the set gauge. The new pressure plate should have just one coil sprin...

Re: 350C steering brake band
Using the Technical manual TM1115 for the 350C, have you checked, and made where needed, every steering and brake measurement/adjustment, on both sides, in the order laid out in the manual? If not, I would say start by doing that, not just going by the looks and feel of things. I believe the wet bra...

Re: Just a little taste
I feel lucky (saying that should change things). We've only had a few mornings below 0F so far this year and the days have gotten up into the low teens at least. Wind chills have been a bit rough at times. Right now its +28 and spitting snow at times. Snow, sleet, possible rain and Icing expected th...

Re: John Deere 420c steering clutch adjustment
Besides what Lavoy posted, I'd say if run with no free play, I would expect the clutch disc is worn, or burnt/glazed, as well the pressure plate. I would expect to be replacing clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout and pilot bearings, and adjusting with the JD7 gauge. When doing the clutch, look for...

Re: jd crawler HLR adjustment
I don't have that one to look through. Strange, but not uncommon there is no info, or it may be buried in a section on something other than transmission overhaul. It appears the early 450Bs had that same shifter set up. There is some info about adjusting both shifters in the 450B manual TM1033. Ther...

Re: 440 icd
Just some thoughts, in case no one comes along with a 440ICD schematic for you. Do you have the parts book for your 440ICD? It shows the fuses, breakers, gauges, and switches/sending units you should have. (Here is a link to the one on line if you don't https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/navigation...
