Re: jd crawler HLR adjustment

Having to wiggle it to find neutral sounds like wear/play in the linkage. Check all pins and joints. The turnbuckle would be the adjustment point, if it is the only adjustable place in the linkage. What book do you have?

Re: What year 450 do I have?

Welcome The E7450 number is just for the loader attachment. The loaders had separate model and serial numbers from the crawlers, during those years. The engine number is good to have but won't work either to get the year either. On a straight 450 the crawler serial number tag you need the numbers fr...

Re: Crawler 420 not starting...and worse

Is this still a 6 volt positive ground system with generator and the saddle mount starter switch on the starter? Is the wiring correct for a 420 or has it been modified? Things get changed over the years and I just want to be sure of what you have before guessing at what it is.

Re: John Deere 420c steering clutch adjustment

Lavoy, someone will correct me if I'm wrong on this. I see the adjustment of the pressure plate fingers as setting them at the proper starting height to get the maximum clutch life and adjustment as the clutch wears. As the disc wears the fingers get higher. This explains why you have to adjust peda...

Re: John Deere 420c steering clutch adjustment

To your question about setting the pressure plate on the main (engine) clutch. Yes you could have an issue there if it was not set. At the time a disc and pressure plate are installed the finger height is supposed to be set with the JD7 gauge. JD7 is the same gauge used for the steering clutches but...

Re: 2010 final brg. adjusting

I am guessing you are talking about the inboard bearing on the axle shaft. the cap is visible when you are under the crawler. I can't say for sure if you can get it off in place and then make the adjustment or not. I will say you are there, hands on, to try it if you want. If it doesn't work out you...

Re: What year is my 350

Yes, your crawler is a 1967 build by that number. Machine serial number tag breakdown using the 350 Introduction from the JD parts Catalog: SN = serial number T = Tractor 4 = JD350 E = Crawler - Loader 3 = Diesel D = (Transmission) Sliding Gear with Reverser Serial number: 047766 (This number falls ...

Re: What year is my 350

I don't think you have found the serial number tag for the crawler. Does your 350 have a loader on it? The numbers you posted look more like the loader model numbers. 7350 was the prefix number for 350 loaders and won't help with your crawler serial number, which is needed to find the right build ye...

Re: John Deere 420c reverser operation question

If you have the manual on the reverser for your overhaul, that info and the adjustment procedure should be in it. It should take 25 to 35 pounds of force to "snap" the lever into forward or reverse. If you don't have a manual you can go to https://techpubs.deere.com/ and get a free copy of the 430 o...

Re: How much should I pay for this late 70's JD 750 Dozer

I agree with 77 Ford on the tracks and undercarriage. If he has not done undercarriage work in the 7 years he has had it, it certainly has not gotten better, so even if 70% then it is less than 70% of new, or more than 70% worn now. I am guessing the 70% listed for the auction was a guess/wishful th...
