Re: Where do you buy your parts?

The E after the 350C stands for Diesel, Inside Blade according to the on line Introduction section of the 350C parts book. Does that match the engine and blade on yours? The wide tracks had a W designation.

Re: Split link on JD450C undercarriage

Generally when you are looking at the side of them, they look like a solid link where the regular links have openings beside each pin, with a center bar between the going between the pad surface and the roller rail surface.

Re: New owner 1950 crawler Ser#115748

This site has a dedicated picture server which was set up after the Photobucket fiasco a few years back where a lot of pictures were lost. You can use the site's dedicated picture server if you set up an account with Lavoy. It is separate from this site so you need a user name and password for him t...

Re: New owner 1950 crawler Ser#115748

It would help to know what blade and what the cylinder you have is. If it is one of the John Deere tie rod cylinders the rod end that attaches to the blade can be welded. I have seen a number that way, including the 430 with a 62 blade I had. There is a threaded end with a nut holding the piston on ...

Re: 350 b reverser leak

Hi Stan, Its in a post from last November where he says he found out it is a C with wet clutches. The question is still how he has put 15 gallons through the reverser (holds 10 quarts according to the spec sheet) in 3 fillings, without it showing up as a leak, or other compartments being way over fu...

Re: BAD Diesel HELP

Flushing, cleaning, add a biocide additive and a tank cleaner as well as the injector cleaner is about all you can do. Use as directed. I'm not saying which product is best; I have used the Power Service Bio-Kleen as a first dose to kill the microbes and their Clear Diesel to "polish" tanks after. G...

Re: BAD Diesel HELP

That is the later rectangular glass filter. There would only be one of those. Likely someone upgraded as that was not the original equipment fuel filter set up on a 450 as far as I know. That style filter doesn't show up in the parts catalogs until the 450C series.

My first thoughts are not much is interchangeable between them. Someone may be along with a different answer.

Re: BAD Diesel HELP

You say you changed the filter. The straight 450's diesels originally had a pair of filters, I believe. What filter does yours have? Is it a different series 450 than straight? Some of the later series had screens inside the tank on the line to the transfer pump. There should be a screen inside the ...

Re: batteries on jd450 1965

I would suggest you unhook the batteries and do some more checking. I am quite sure it should be a 12 volt system and the batteries should be in parallel as was posted the other day. The parts catalog shows 12 volt starter and alternator. If they are in series I would say someone hooked the batterie...

Re: fuse panel on jd 450 1965

No fuse box, there should be one circuit breaker behind the dash panel. If you don't have the manuals you should get a set, at least the service and operator's manuals. Lavoy can likely help you with getting them through his store. You can use the on line parts catalogs at jdparts.com. Here is a lin...

Re: JD 450 Hydraulic Filter

The filter in the tank is all there is for the hydraulics. Note that there are differences in the filters and parts that were used with each. If yours was the long filter it doesn't use all the parts the short on uses, according to the on line parts book. You might be able to get some of the parts a...

Re: Regulator Grounding

Some had a ground strap that lined up with a mount bolt, some had a separate wire. Either way it should be mounted (usually two to four screws or bolts depending on the regulator mounting tabs), it shouldn't be just hanging on the wires. The parts catalog shows the original with a ground lead (item ...

Re: JD 450

Welcome. Your serial number tag should be more like SNT5E3M011711T. SN = serial number T = Tractor 5 = JD450 E+ Crawler Loader 3 = Diesel Engine M = Hi-Low-Reverse transmission 011711 = 1965 built crawler T = built at Dubuque John Deere Tractor Works So you have a 1965 450 Diesel Crawler Loader with...
