Anyone have any good way to re-install these after adjusting the pressure plate fingers? I cannot figure it out after removing them. I really don’t see what purpose they have either. Thanks!

What is a suitable surface for the inside of the brake drum where the clutch plates make contact? Mine is very rusty and I am not sure if I need to take it to a machine shop or if sand blasting, grinder with a wire wheel would work.
