Transmission ?
Still getting used to my 555 track loader. With a torque converter drive system, does throttle position affect the power to the wheels? By that I mean at less than full throttle, (approx half) I was backing up doing some backdragging/leveling with the bucket, in R1 on the powershift, and it seemed t...

Re: Hydraulic Oil and Trans Oil change
Hi Jim, Thanks very much for the info! That clears things up for me. My whole stamped SN# tag reads, "555-A 372133T" It has an actual dash "-" after the 555 and then an "A". If I'm interpreting that correctly, based on your info, I must have a straight 555. Thats' it for #'s and letters. I was mista...

Re: Hydraulic Oil and Trans Oil change
Hi Guys, Had the chance to find the plug and drain the hydraulic reservoir on the 555 today. HOLY CRAP, I've never seen oil come out like that! I worked on a lot of wheeled tractors on the farm growing up. It looked like a thick chocolate malt that's half melted! Had an odd smell too. Anyway, got ab...

Re: Hydraulic Oil and Trans Oil change
Thanks for the replies guys! Mikeforester sounds like you've fought the moisture battle. Did you blow out lines going to the loader lift and dump cylinders too? There must be several gallons in those cylinders. I'll give it a try, thanks for all your advice!

Re: Hydraulic Oil and Trans Oil change
Thanks Stan for the thoughts. My filler is under the right side cover. I open the lid on the right side (under the armrest just behind the bucket control lever) and under that cover there's the tank, return, filler, filter and loader valve body. The sight glass is on the right side (outside) of the ...

Hydraulic Oil and Trans Oil change
Hello, I just purchased a 555A crawler loader. I'm new to crawlers and John Deere's. I believe my machine sat outside quite a bit. I see very milky white hydraulic fluid in my reservoir sight glass and want to drain the system. In the specs sheet I found, it lists John Deere JD Hy-Gard Type J20C for...

Finally got my 555 home
Here's a few pics after I got it unloaded last night. 3100 hours, a few gauges don't work and the exhaust manifold leaks on the very front bolt area. Needs fluids changed, would really like to chat with someone about preferred fluids etc. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1KuUjRfjvMKkTXSqQv-yOeikzQ6V...

limb riser kit for 555A
Good evening all, I'm still in the process of purchasing the 555A. I hope to have that wrapped up soon and have the machine home. I've looked at a lot of different dozers and decided the track loader would suit my needs on the farm the best Does anyone know of a limb riser kit for a 555A track loade...

Re: 555A SN and general info
Hi B Town Thanks for your reply! I had looked at the FAQ's again and did see that thread for the 550's (550 through 550G) that you mentioned, but couldn't find a thread for the 555's. Did I miss something? Sorry for sounding like such a newb! :( In searching the web for John Deere production numbers...

555A SN and general info
Good Morning All, I'm looking at buying a 555A crawler loader and trying to find more info. Seller claims it's a 1984. It has 3200 hours on it. I would estimate UC at 50%. I plan to use it to clear fencelines, build trails, grub out stumps etc. Probably less than 100 hours a year. I have a few quest...
