Re: Oil and oil recommendations

Reverser uses Hy-Gard which also goes in the hydraulic tank. If you have a LH reverser lever. The RH lever reverser I think gets lube from the trans. And the trans and final drives use GL1 90w but I use GL5 and they don't mind the newer multi-grade. I haven't been across the border for 17 months no...

Re: 420 C, No Oil To Top

I would echo what Dave said. If it is not that, I would question whether someone put the back cam bushing in wrong. Keep in mind, there is never a "flow" of oil there, but it is a steady pulse that will eventually get into the rockershaft. Lavoy Well, I had an afternoon last week to tinker in the s...

420 C, No Oil To Top

My crawler had its center frame replaced in some prior life so the S/N tag has been lost, but it was sold to me several years ago as an early model 420. I pulled the valve cover earlier this week, and found there is no oil flowing up to the rocker arm assembly. After removing the external tube to th...

Re: You Would Think this was Simple...

Anyone know the best way to unseize a diesel engine that has been sitting in storage a long time? My plan was to use Marvel Mystery Oil and dump it down each cylinder, but maybe some of you have done this more than me, and know a better way? Some guys swear by a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF; I've s...

Re: You Would Think this was Simple...

...That leaves the third plug in the top to set up with the return line. You could pull supply from there as well if you don't want to draw off the bottom. You may need to modify pipe fittings to get what you want for your return. Whatever you do for tying into that third opening, it needs to be ai...

Re: 420C "Skidder"

Thanks to you both for your replies. That pretty much nails it down, Stan, as it does have a water pump. It also does have an inside blade: no angle, no tilt, just straight push, and I believe factory hydraulics with the odd valve control stick to get up, pressure down, and float from the valve bank...

420C "Skidder"

Last October I brought home a crawler dozer; decals say 420, former owner says 420; tin is all green, but serial number plate is gone...center section between the engine and transmission must have been replaced new sometime because it was never drilled for the plate mounting "rivets". But anyway ear...
