one thing about crawlers is when they do go thru and u are fast enuf with no cab the ice is thick enuf for u to stand there dry and watch it go down.
Spring is the hardest time to judge ice strength.
My great uncle put her thru one spring and the only person to get wet was on the sleigh.

another thing I forgot was that Manitoba Highways would have to post ice levels and weights that the vehicle insurance would cover so a safety margin would already be there. Been on ice alot of years and it's real hard to stop the stories. Here's to a happy new year and a model 40 that's working on ...

One thing is to watch your speed when you approach the other side. There is a pocket of air under the ice approxamately 2 to 3 vehicle lengths ahead of a heavy machine(semi truck loaded) as the machine itself will be about 2 to 3 inches below the water level. any kind of release spring would get weakened wouldn't it? There's the minus I can think of quick. clutches might slip on startup instead of "freeze". don't actually know which would be best.

It sure would be nice to hear how to clean and reseal the inside of a fuel tank. I have the tank off just have to figger out what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Temperature is down to -40 with windchill. 2 good things about -40 are that I'll be able to get the old girl out on the ice and you don't have to worry about F/C converting.

You could straighten them. But I'd watch real close for cracks in the blades. Looks like they been out of balance for quite a while. Could of been straightened a few more times than is safe too.

One thing that you have to make sure of is that the coolant level does'nt drop so far that the hot coolant can't pass up to the top of the radiator.
