Blade compatibility

Does anyone have any info what blades are compatible with different models and years? I have a 77 550 with a fixed blade and framework outside the tracks. Would it be possible to convert it to a 6 way blade with c-frame and framework inside the tracks off of a 67 450? Anyone with any insight? Thanks

550 oily sludge in coolant

Hi all, Removed my radiator cap and there is an oily sludge in coolant. Pulled hose from block at top of oil cooler and coolant appeared to be clean. Don't appear to have any water or coolant in oil. Have gaskets and orings to rebuild oil cooler. Does it sound like oil cooler is failing. Can I pop t...

Undercarriage?

Picked up a '77 JD 550 dozer. Sprockets are worn severely to the point that you can see its increasing chain wear. My question is it common to go thru multiple sprockets throughout the life of the undercarriage. Would it make sense to change only sprockets at the moment and extend the life of my cha...

450 and 550 compatibility?

Hi, I have a 550 dozer with the 2 way up down blade that has the manual pin adjustments for 4 way with the framework outside the tracks. My question: Is it possible to remove this set up and install the 6-way blade with c-framework inside the track as well as all the necessary hydraulics fairly easy...

JD 550 Transmission ?

Hi, can anyone tell me what would be a normal operating range for the transmission temperature on a JD 550 dozer? Looking at replacing my gauge and curious to know what kind of range I need on the gauge face.

Re: JD 550 ?

That is one place I dont recall looking very closely. I'll be back at the machine in a few days and check it out. I've found online that it looks like a Kleenoil or Filtakleen cartridge and closer to the Filtakleen based on its size. Thanks for your help Jim.

Re: JD 550 ?

So this is the filter that was in the oil bypass canister. Can anyone tell me what brand this is and where I can get one. I have no way of identifying this thing. Thanks http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq185/bdog2photo/20190218_111843.jpg https://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq185/bdog2photo/20190...

Re: JD 550 ?

There is still the transmission filter under the seat, in fact I pulled it out yesterday evening when I took the picture of this thing. I kind of thought like you that it was some type of bypass filter for easier access and maybe it is. I just got the machine and I'm in the process of replacing all ...

JD 550 ?

I have a 81 JD 550 crawler and there is some type of filter mounted in the battery box with 2 fluid lines coming from the base of it. I cant find anything in the manual referring to this filter. Can anyone help me identify what this is. It appears one of the lines goes into crankcase on lower right ...
