Re: 450 STAIGHT oil pressure issue

Thanks for the 411 on gauges. I'll definitely give levy a shout first I read the manual, found the oil pressure reg valve and it had no shims. Added a proper sized washer of .060 thickness (little less than 2 of the original shim thicknesses (says you can use a max of 4 (.036 shims)). It helped the ...

Re: 450 STAIGHT oil pressure issue

Thanks Jim, two great ideas. I plan on looking in the manual this morning for solutions. I also plan on buying an independent high pressure gauge for hydraulics anyhow so I'll plan to pick up a 60 psi gauge while I'm at it. Any recommendations on where to get these gauges? If adjustments and or a go...

Re: 450 STAIGHT oil pressure issue

Re: 450 STAIGHT oil pressure issue

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the engine was supposedly re-built in 2012, so only 7 years ago and was told it sat in the barn for the better part of 2 of those years... otherwise it has only seen farm use. The first thing I'm going to address in the morning is to disconnect the gauge and and fill ...

450 STAIGHT oil pressure issue

Genrts, back again... I have a mid-60's 450 straight, crawler loader, diesel that is giving me uncomfortable oil pressure readings. When I start her up, and run her at "hi idle"for warm up, she is reading right around 40 on the gauge but after she fully warms up and I've been running her for half an...

Re: 450B need complete engine

The engine caught fire and melted all the accessories. Once I've pulled the engine and examine everything, I'll know whether or not the head and block are salvageable, until then, it's all unknown.

450B need complete engine

I had another thread on here regarding a 450B I'm looking to purchase but it didn't get many hits so I'm putting this question into this separate thread topic hoping to get a better response and maybe help others down the road. The machine is a 1973 450B crawler loader with backhoe. Supposedly "ever...

Re: 450 PTO control/engagement lever - where is it?

JWB, Thanks for the input, I will most likely do exactly that... if the clutch plates aren't worn too bad, I'll just pull everything apart, clean it all up, deburr and re-assemble. It would be nice to be able to operate with the plate off, not sure of anything until I dig in.

Re: 450 PTO control/engagement lever - where is it?

Funny thing, after I posted that, I kept working it on different logs and was able to pull about a 1,000 log but only on flat ground, I was pulling all the others uphill and they were much larger logs. When this logging season (for me) ends, I'll definitely be doing a full rebuild on the winch. Clut...

Re: 450 PTO control/engagement lever - where is it?

Today was proving day for the winch (and the crawler in general) since all the work. The crawler, she worked great, the winch, not so much. The 3305 free spools fine and winches in but has no guts to pull. Does anyone know any low hanging fruit to look at before tearing into it? At least the brake h...

Re: New 450B purchase, worth it?

Thanks for the input! I realize it might be a days worth of work but I'm thinking more along the lines of planning all the logging work during one season and backhoe work during another. If anybody has a better solution to having both backhoe AND winch capabilities without having two machines, I'm a...

Re: New 450B purchase, worth it?

Thanks for the input, sure helped when I went to look at it this morning. Now that I know the machine a little better, can anyone shed some light on how difficult it would be, or if it is possible to add a winch drive shaft to be able to swap between a backhoe and a winch using the same machine? Wou...

Re: New 450B purchase, worth it?

Backhoe attachments are totally new to me, I thought they ran off of their own hydraulic system, driven by a PTO of some sort, I am now under the impression that all backhoe attachments are run off of the crawler's hydraulic system??? Can someone please educate a brother? Thanks!

Re: New 450B purchase, worth it?

Well, the backhoe and 4-in-1 bucket themselves would almost be worth it for me, along with, well everything else that would swap over perfectly or at least require little to no modification to swap. Knowing I won't have to spend countless hours online searching for parts when something breaks, knowi...
