Re: Broken bolts where track assembly fastens to frame

I used a jack right in front of the crossbar on the clutch housing, and the engine, clutch, reverser, and transmission all started to rotate. I just about have enough clearance to get the side frame out of the crossbar when the free movement stops. If I jack any further I actually start picking up t...

Re: Broken bolts where track assembly fastens to frame

Removing the side frames is definitely the way to go. I have removed the right side without too much trouble and removed the broken bolts. However the left side is giving me fits. It appears that the side frame is caught around the side of the engine+clutch housing which prevents me from lifting the...

Needing head gasket wisdom

During the course of slowly repairing my father's 1965 JD-350 (no suffix), the head gasket managed to fail. The two main obvious symptoms is very foggy exhaust and an oil reservoir full of antifreeze. I don't have a reference book. So I need some torque specs for the head bolts, and the rocker arm a...

Re: Broken bolts where track assembly fastens to frame

There were only two bolts remaining in the cross bar. One of the bolts(5/8" x 2 1/8") had the standard grade five marking. The other bolt was the broken one. It drilled very effortlessly making me suspect grade 2. However I doubt that either of the bolts are the originals. The parts that I am missin...

Broken bolts where track assembly fastens to frame

Picture below for reference. On my 1965 jd-350, I have discovered an issue with the bolts mounting the track assembly to the frame of the tractor. There is a bracket on either side of the tractor with each bracket having two bolts on the side and two bolts under the frame. Half of the bolts are miss...

Conclusion

I'm following up to bring closure to this topic. This forum has helped me greatly, and I would like to pay-forward by adding useful information for the next guy that might run across this particular problem and be similarly clueless. SUMMARY Replacing the pencil injector solved the problem with dies...

Re: Leak around base of injector nozzle on 350 crawler

I followed your cautions about errant diesel spray, replaced the injector, and carefully monitored the situation from a distance with safety glasses, and some clear plastic shields. After removing the muffler, it is pretty easy to see everything that is happening. I can see the frothing diesel fuel ...

Re: Leak around base of injector nozzle on 350 crawler

The fluid is definitely diesel. The off-road dye make the diesel easy to distinguish. I don't have any prior experience with pulling injectors. But I did have to use a puller with a sliding weight, and the nozzle only came out in baby-steps. My experience resembles what I have seen in other youtube ...

Leak around base of injector nozzle on 350 crawler

There is a diesel leak around the injector nozzle on cylinder #1 on my 1965 350 crawler. I first checked the tubing fittings from the injector pump, then checked the rubber T fitting for the return line. But neither of those spots appeared to be the source of the leak. The leak appeared to be around...
