Re: JD Parts Guy In VT

Problem solved. Heard from him last Thursday. Seems he was helping someone out with a roof in a remote part of the state of Maine. Alive and well!!! Thanks for all of your help.

JD Parts Guy In VT

Anyone have any idea what may or may not have happened to a fellow in Johnson, VT by the name of Mark Courchain? I've tried calling him, texting and even sending him mail's but to no avail. Seems I have fallen on deaf ears. Let me know if anyone has any information!!! Thanks.

Re: Straight 450 steering issue

So what needs to be replaced? Just the steer bands?

Re: Straight 450 steering issue

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of a cleaner/degreaser as am alternative to a complete tear-down. In using the machine this morning for approx. 2 hours, one side does steer but the other is quite weak. Since both chambers were filled with the oil, and drained and flushed, I thought that maybe t...

Straight 450 steering issue

Hello everyone On my machine, R/O tractor oil was inadvertently put into the clutch housings. Believing the tractor had wet clutches, instead of dry clutches. Although one side (left) came back to life after both housings were flushed out with Kerozene, the other has very little steering capability....

Re: 6 Way Blade Hydraulic Piping Diagram

There are a number of hydraulic schematics in the hydraulic section of the 450B manual, including at least one for the 6 way blade. There is an on line copy you can down load at https://archive.org/details/John_Deere_Company . The manual is the center in the top row. I down loaded it in a pdf forma...

I'm guessing you will need the manual for the dozer itself.

I do have a manual for the machine, but it does not discuss the 6 way blade but rather the loader only

6 Way Blade Hydraulic Piping Diagram

I am in the process of installing a 6 way blade on my JD450 (straight). I'm looking for a piping diagram to help me get everything in place. Although I have a very comprehensive maintenance manual for the machine, it only covers machines with loaders, but not the the 6 way. I do have the 6 way valve...

Re: lower carriage roller removal on a JD 450

I did indeed try what you originally suggested, but the flanges of the roller won't drop out of the main heavy C channel, therefor the roller has to drop out straight down, and any slight angle will cause it to bind and not budge. It might of been just easier to actually remove the entire carriage, ...

Re: lower carriage roller removal on a JD 450

On another issue, I removed the outside lower carriage guard today by removing the 12 bolts, from the main rail carriage heavy channel iron. Then I unbolted the 10 bolts securing the roller flanges to the main frame as well as the ones holding the roller flange to the opposite inside frame. Long sto...

Re: lower carriage roller removal on a JD 450

The plate was originally, as your sitting in the machine, would be facing the inside of your right leg, towards the floor pan. You can see where it was located, by the paint that is not discolored where it would if been mounted.

Re: lower carriage roller removal on a JD 450

Unfortunately, the serial # plate for my machine is missing. Even though I can ID the location where it should be, I have no idea as to what year it was manufactured..

Re: lower carriage roller removal on a JD 450

I don't have the service manual handy. Not sure where to get my hands on one either. eBay have many service manuals available for the 450, But I'm not sure which one I should buy for my machine. I own a straight 450, so mid-70's?? I will take the service manual number you mentioned and see if I can ...

Re: lower carriage roller removal on a JD 450

That's definitely doable. I have the track & chain removed, and looking at replacing all of the 5 rollers on the left hand side. That's a lot of less work then dismantling the entire carriage!!! Thanks for the heads up. Much appreciated. P.S.: I got the assemble drawing from the JD parts site. Wish ...
