Re: 440 final drives 350 alternator
Are these still available, and where are you located? Do you have any 440 engine parts?

Re: crawler points
I wonder if you put a CD conversion pickup unit in, it would cure all points and condenser problems??
They make them for 6 or 12 volt.

JD 2000 series service manual
I have an original JD 2000 series service manual. I only have a 440ic so this manual isn’t of any use to me. ( I have both parts and service manual for 440ic) if anyone wants I will sell or trade for something.

Re: 440 ic rebuild
Thanks. Adding this to parts order list! Should have trans apart this week, if I can get back at it. I am hoping that shaft is not worn, thinking that may be hard to find.

Re: 440 ic rebuild
Is that common on a 440 ic to have first gear (5 speed) wear out? If so, does the gear wear where bearings ride?
Does anyone have these parts?
Lavoy, is there a bearing kit for trans OH, or do we order separately ?

Re: Crossing JD bearing numbers to generic
I just used that site and crossed some of my 440ic transmission bearings. Noticed they are common modern wheel bearing numbers, and some can be bought at an RV dealer(trailer wheel bearings) for very cheap- like under $10 set, but they are made in China and will not live very long!! Be careful.

Re: Crossing JD bearing numbers to generic
We use a bearing wholesaler here in BC, Canada. Usually you can see the numbers stamped in old bearings . With those numbers and your JD numbers and a bunch of leg work, you can usually save a bunch of money. Sometimes they can use measurement of bearings (and seals) and the bore and/or the shaft th...

Re: 440 ic rebuild
Update- found an older gentleman that has had engine machine shop for many years, he grew up with these little JD crawlers. He said he can make con rod just like new! Has a set of .040 over pistons(used, but good) my block looks like a .040 bore will be good. He is a super guy, major amount of expier...

440 ic flywheel resurface
Had flywheel resurfaced( someone had put new clutch and pressure plate and was only contacting 1/2 of flywheel surface)
We used the ridge that was left as a guide for the depth between flywheel surface and where pressure plate bolts to on flywheel.
Does anyone know proper depth?

Re: 440 ic rebuild
Thanks for info, Lavoy! I am about to check crank pin specs to see approx how much they are going to have to grind, I am .005 under 2.500, so will have to see what specs are. Mains are under 2.500 but are reasonably good so believe .010 under on the mains. Will bore it .060 just give it more compres...

Re: 440 ic rebuild
Yes that is a big decision . If mine(440 ic) wasn’t in as good shape (( metal wise) As it is, I, to, would be thinking of parting it out.
