Most desired older gas machine
I have a super nice 450c but looking for an older gas machine for my woodlot. No crazy work with it mostly to get to softer areas to pull out firewood, push some minor brush and level out the #3 stone that I dump into muddy ruts. More of a play toy for my grandkids and me. Prefer gas since I figure ...

1959 420
found a 1959 420 for sale that supposedly has been rebuilt undercarriage. I only want one for a toy in the woods. Have a 450c. Would like a gas model now to just push small brush piles, maybe level out ruts from the tractor and get into softer spots for getting out firewood. Not really gonna work it...

I have a 1985 450c dozer. I have a shop manual. Is a parts manual still available ?

Re: 1010 or mc
Got a chance to buy a couple of 1010 gas. I can park next to my woodlot and keep tarped. Too far to keep driving across field. Guy says undercarriage is 70%. So what might I have issue with in parts ? Are clutches easy to do on it ? Also has a winch but not working. Are they rebuildable still ? That...

Re: 1010 or mc
Lovoy, will a 1010 gas then be a nice toy for what I described ? I just don't want to get an older machine and then have to part it out. Pretty mechanically inclined .

1010 or mc
I already have a 450c so now want a little toy for my woods for firewood only, maybe pushing a log, maybe to pull a snagged tree, but no real work. Found a 1010 gas local . I prefer a gas engine for the winter. How do they compare to the MC for parts ? What about wt difference. Straight blade is fin...

Re: Track questions
mikie62, You say you aren't finding anything in your area, it might help if you add your general location to your profile. Someone might just know of a machine that is not advertised within a reasonable distance from you. You might be to locate a good one in a different area and pay some freight to...

Re: New Toy 1010
Mind telling us what it went for ?Looks like a sweet little homeowner machine. If parts were readily available I would buy a gas machine over a diesel.

Re: Track questions
Trying to find an average $14k machine doers not seem to happen in my area. Are the 450C models the farthest back best ones to have ?

Re: Track questions
Stan- I couldn't agree more. If you are going to jump into the crawler realm, do the complete U/C. More $$ , but "set it and forget it". Should be good for 3-4,000 hours depending on conditions, up keep, maintenance. Bruce I know its been awhile since I did this thread but it is spring auction time...

Re: 450 lower rebuild price
Thanks Jim, that was another thing I was going to ask if it would be better to pay a tad more for something that has had the undercarriage gone through than to buy a more worn machine and then do the work. I would assume a fair amount of it I could do since I was a machine tool mechanic unless it wa...

450 lower rebuild price
Still learning about dozers and look from time to time for a 450 for my own use. When there is sag in the tracks does that mean they are too worn and in need of replacement ? I have seen some at farm auctions that were used on a farm and auctioneer will say undercarriage @ 50%. What would an approxi...

Track questions
I have heard that there are aftermarket tracks available for some dozers. There is a farm about 10 miles from me that I buy sweet corn from. The farmer has a JD 450C sitting in the barn that has not moved in a few years. It looks like in decent shape but the pads seem fairly worn and not much of a c...
