Re: Thoughts on this

Bill, if not, I have a 420C center section in Maine that might be cheaper to ship.

Re: Compression on 420 engine

Starter is pretty tired but starts and runs well. Reasonably sure my gauge is okay, think the low numbers are just because it turns over so slowly.

Re: Compression on 420 engine

Thanks. Getting 60-70 on mine, but it's not spinning very fast. I'll do the usual checks to see if it comes up.

Decision time.

Thanks so much to everyone here for their help and information.

I've done the math and the bottom line is that I just don't have the pockets to fix the 420.

Re: Crossing JD bearing numbers to generic

Getting numbers off the bearings is Plan B.

Jim B shot me some online cross-reference stuff from SKF and Federal-Mogul. Found most of them there.

Thanks for your response!

Crossing JD bearing numbers to generic

Thanks to Jim B, I found the right section of JDParts.com to get the JD numbers for the bearings in the transmission of my 420C.

Surprising me not at all, Mother Deere's pricing is breathtaking.

Anyone know of a source to cross JD's numbers to generic bearing sources?

420C tracks - beginner question.

http://www.eastovershoe.com/crawler/tracks.jpg Quick Paint sketch so we're all on the same page. Are links and pads ambidextrous or is there a specific way they go on? Pretty sure the links have to go on as shown with the "male" end of the link pointing toward the front of the crawler when viewed f...

What kind of shape are the lines from the pump to the injectors in? Fittings in good shape and tight?

Yeah, I was afraid of that.

Email inbound.

BTW you were right about the oil gallery and feed holes to the front bearing. Totally plugged.

More 420C trans questions.

1956, 4 speed. 1. I assume the output shaft comes out to the rear, or at least has to be tapped back far enough to take the sliding gears off the shaft? 2. Given #1, I assume the ring gear and carrier have to come out as the pinion fouls the ring gear if I try to tap it back as is. 3. Given #2, poin...

Re: Poop. I think I'm boned.

Thanks.

Top left as you look at it was definitely a bolt. Been off before apparently. When I reassemble I'll use a stud and nut.
