Re: Engine Clutch
Thank you very much for the responses, this is just what I needed to hear. I know I have done everything the proper way and I followed the maintenance manual as well as advise from this message board. My thought is someone much smarter than me put the manual together, use it. Unfortunately the thing...

Engine Clutch
Hi all I have an issue with my engine clutch on my 40c. This is my take on it. When there is no load on the trans ( in neutral clutch engaged, input shaft is the only thing spinning) there is just enough drag between the pressure plate and clutch disk that it takes around a 5 count for the shaft to ...

Re: John Deere 420c steering clutch adjustment
If I suspected the pressure plate was out of wack I would jog the machine around and take note of the distance of each finger from the thrust bearing. How close is your thrust bearing to the fingers? If you were to block up the machine you could do some manual testing of the clutch....loosen brake b...

Re: 40c Project
Been taken away from this for a bit but have finally gotten back to working on it a bit. Got the cooling system hooked up and was able to get it running somewhat properly the other day. Quite loud in a small shop with no muffler. What a relief everything with the trans and steering seemingly functio...

Fender Drawing
Hello, I have be plugging away at my 40/420 Frankenstein restoration, unfortunately my unit did not come with any fenders. I was wondering if there was a kind soul aroound interested in doing some measuring and drawing a picture so I could build some. There was no seat mount either but I think I can...

Re: 40c Project
Right you are.....it's says "special nut" on the parts diagram. It also shows a stud but I can't Imagine where it would thread into. Anyway I'll see if I can track down the nuts.....thank you for the clarification on that it's much appreciated.

Re: 40c Project
Lavoy I have been looking at the parts diagrams for this thing.....are the studs you mention to thread into the brake housing itself?
I have a feeling the damage has already been done....I bagged and labelled all the bolts when I took it apart...they were just regular ft nuts and bolts.

Re: 40c Project
I guess I am going to start working on some of the wiring. The electrical system that is on it has been converted to 12 v so I guess I'll stick with that for now. Waiting on some gauges. Still have to test the hour meter to see if it actually works...does anyone know of it will run on 12v? Need to g...

Re: 40c Project
Good to know Lavoy I have indeed used used regular bolts. I know you likely have these but given the many miles between us would think a dealership have these? My guess is that the wearing has already happened at some point. The side frames already have been patched and welded where the bolt to the ...

Re: 40c final drive housing pin
Well had an 18" pipe wrench on it and it wouldn't budge. So I took it back apart and rigged up a piece of steel pipe with a rather large c clamp to push them back through. Thanks again for all the information about how it was put together.
