Pa pa's tractor

Excellent story, makes this old man kinda misty. Here is to hoping my kin find a worthy place for my old 420. It may not be long, I am trying to give my grandkids as many memories as possible.

Thanks,
chuck

belly pan

I assume your speaking of the mongo skid plate. I am in the same pickle. My plan is to string a cheap 2 ton come-a-long around the tractor and below the pan..jack er' up into place.

Yes, Lavoy it is the two piece bumper. Digger, You have the answer. I have removed the 5 bolts that hold up the skid plate. But I have only lowered the plate an inch. So i must now remove the skid plate and then I will see the 4 bolts BEHIND the bumper casting! THANK YOU Lavoy and Digger. I will thi...

the two piece casting of the hunk of iron that is in front of the pump? or the front piece of the casting of the pump itself? For that chunk of iron I have removed the angle iron on top of it, the side bolts and the 5 bolts where it bolts unto the skidplate. Thanks for replying Lavoy. I think I read...

removing hydraulic pump

Ok, I just can't afford the manuals. So I have been trying to remove the hydraulic pump on a 420c. Now I don't claim to be intelligent but I am showing supreme stupidity. I have removed the grille, the angle iron bracket that the bottom of the grille bolts to, the radiator, the bolts on the skid pla...

420C Oil FILter / Napa

Gentlemen, I have no manuals and need a favor. We have a NAPA parts store within 10 mile and I need to change my oil filter. Does anyone know what NAPA oil filter number I would use to replace the oil filter in my 420C, 1958. I assume it is just a paper element filter thus no need for expensive Deer...

Grant, That is a great picture. Your a good Grandfather. I have 2 grandchildren 7 and 3 I have wanted to give them a ride on the crawler for several years. There is just no safe way to do it. So I too let them sit on it while she is shut down with the key out. The neighborhood has lost 2 grandkids t...

seatbelt story

You bring to mind, Brent. A fine man that I asked for advice from on buying my first crawler. He is a Master Mechanic from the North Slope and his son had a 420 for sale. Brent introduced me to the 420 while offering me to take er' for a spin. I had rented a few crawlers for small yard jobs and alwa...

skidding

I skidded logs with a 3/8 inch chain hooked to the front of my bucket. When it broke it dang near killed me..refrain from that, watch the stumps or anything else that will catch and break the chain. 3 ft. dia. and 150 ft. is way to large for you at that size it will probably pull your tracks off the...
