wire guage

I retired from the phone company a few years ago and one of the thinngs we had to do was which wire size to use. One of the things we learned was that DC current is carried on the surface of the copper conductor. What this meant was that the finer the strands in the cable the greater the amp carring...

This may sound funny but my Dad now 90 as of Saturday, used to use heat on the shaft untill the hub started to heat up real well and then hold an ice cube (large) on the shaft to cause it to shrink faster than the hub. It seemed to work for him.... he always said it worked on the heavy stuff lol. mi...

If the battery in your crawler is flat and the jumper cables are carring the whole load they probably are not heavy enough even using 12volts....most jumper cables any more are only 6 gage and if you are lucky they mightt be 4 gage. not heavy enough to carry the whole load.....you would be better of...

Don, I am not sure but on my 420 the springs were fully relaxed well before the thread ran out. I would wonder if sometime in the past if some one might have replaced the spring with a longer one trying to get more tension......something there just dosen't sound correct tto me... maybe Lavoy would b...

Amen on getting the nut to turn. You might find it a good thing to soak them in blaster or some other type of penetrating oil for a few days. If you have time as I did I put it in the shop and give them a squirt every time i walked by the crawler for nearly 2 weeks. It was still a hard time to get t...

Jimmy, That dosen't look like the one on my 420. mine is straight. sort of wonder if at some time in the past if someone might have bumped somethig and pushed the radiator back over the fan or something came in from the side and bent it and that is how the mechanic straightened it to save a dime or ...

Hey Jimmy, I fought a similar problem with my 420 several years ago. It was such that there was a real problem getting some of the gears to work well. 1st groaned a lot and 2nd growled loudly 3rd worked well just to high to do much work and 4th and off to the races. mine must be an earlier model as ...

When I split the tracks on the 420 I found that some one in the past had broken the master pin on the side where the snap ring goes and had welded it and either piened it over with a hammer or had grounc it almost flush with the chain. I used a grinder and did grind it Flush and proceded to drive it...

Merry Christmas

HO HO HO everyone, Just taking time to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. As I think about how good the past year I can't help but to think about the reason for the season and to thank God for my savior Jesus Christ and the life he lived and the suffering and death he endured for me. It just make...

I have to agree with Lavoy, I had to split my tracks on the 420 and it will make you have a use of choice words but that was before me and Jesus came to an agreememt. It may be part of the reason that we came to that agreememt. It seems to me that when I was hitting that bit punch with that sledge ...

Lots of luck David, if you are going to go through the motor do it all the way. If you repair part of it and some other part has wear you will find that the additional power from the rebuild will cause sometthing else to fail if you miss it. If you can while you have it torn down get it all... You w...

Gosh I was just thinking how nice it would have been if my master pins had still been un modified when I had to remove the tracks from my 420 when rebuilding the tranny. Some one in the past had welded tthe masterpins out and rounded them over with a pien hammer. What a mess that was having to grind...
