DO NOT soak or put oil of any type on dry clutches. Check the linkages to see if you can find a tight spot, such a spot you may be able to carefully lubricate. If you track it back to the steering clutch itself a teardown is the proper fix. Try adjusting both sides by the manual, in the order given...

420 left steering sticks

So the right steering is fine but it seems like the left stick is much more harder to pull back , I've heard of guys soaking them in kerosene but has anyone on here ever done that or any other trick to loosen the stick lever up ?

Hopefully someone has seen one like yours. Lavoy or Stan might have seen such. Is it an adapter in the original housing base or did they remove the original base from the block and bolt a different base on the block? You need to identify the threads in your filter. Try SAE and metric bolts. 3/4-16 ...

420 6 volt starter

Switching my starter from 6 volt to 12 volt , i only got a quick look at it yesterday as it was pouring down here in washington state , do i need to remove the gas tank ? I only saw one bolt holding the starter in , and it was on the right side of the crawler , thanks in advance !

I recently did the 12 volt conversion on my 1956 420 crawler , got it started ran it for a few minutes , shut it off and walked away , looked back only to see smoke rollin outta the coil , boiled the oil out of it.
