450B loose track pin

I've got an issue with one of my track pins that has backed out a bit and so it's only engaged in two of the three holes that connect two links together. Thinking I could just drive it back in and tack weld a side to keep it from moving again, but I have spent hours trying to get the holes aligned w...

Re: cleaning/torching winch brake bands?

Not sure if I found a leak, I did put a new o-ring where the oil passage way goes from the winch housing through the cover to the clutch. I'm not sure if it fell off when I removed the cover or if the last person neglected to put one on but that could've been the source, hopefully, as nothing else s...

Re: cleaning/torching winch brake bands?

The only people torching brake bands are the ones who won't take the winch apart and fix it correctly... It was designed not to leak from the factory, properly repaired, it won't leak again. Lavoy So do you have tips on finding the source of the leak, as I'm not seeing anything obvious now that it'...

Re: cleaning/torching winch brake bands?

Best to just fix your oil leak then have your band relined, should be less than $200. Have sanded, torched, ovened. But the oil keeps coming out of the band. When they are very saturated in oil, you can see the oil resurface in 5 minutes. I like the idea of fixing the leak, but from the reading I'v...

cleaning/torching winch brake bands?

Hello all, my 450B has a 3325 winch that slips if pulling anything more than lighter dead logs. I can crawl forward, winch in, and repeat but its annoying and a time waste and I have a fair amount of logging to do in the coming weeks. I drained a fair amount of leaked oil from the dry/brake side. I'...

Just checking on what you are using for transmission and hydraulic oil.
Thanks Jim, I had read somewhere else to avoid 303 and use J20C and so I'm using Shell Rotella HD which was the best stuff I could find in a hurry.

Re: Seeking advice on replacing high pressure hydraulic line in a 450B

Well it turned out I was way off with my troubleshooting, as it was actually a transmission cooler hose that was leaking. The location was right where the hoses are tight together and out of direct line of sight and with the dirt packed in there it made it look like the hydraulic lines were leaking....

Re: Seeking advice on replacing high pressure hydraulic line in a 450B

Well I got the new high pressure line installed this morning but unfortunately that was not the source of the leak, looks like it is the return line that was right next to it. That one is still the old steel line. Looks like it wore right where it runs against a section of frame. Guess I'll have to ...

Re: Seeking advice on replacing high pressure hydraulic line in a 450B

I got it out. I was able to lower the front of the belly skid about 8” on a jack and block it to gain access to the lines. The two lines had several zip ties holding them together. Once I cut those I was able to pull the high pressure line out the gap in the side pretty easily and made it to the par...

Re: Seeking advice on replacing high pressure hydraulic line in a 450B

Thanks for the info. I did find the hydraulic diagram in the technical manual when I went back and looked again, somehow missed it the first time and went digging for more info in the parts catalog which doesn't have much. The high pressure line is a hose on mine, looks simple enough for a hydraulic...

Seeking advice on replacing high pressure hydraulic line in a 450B

Hi, proud new owner of a 450B dozer here (external manual blade, logging winch). We ran the dozer through all operations just fine while looking at it, and it ran and drove quite nicely. Then got it delivered and two days later it blew oil all over the road. Saw hydraulic reservoir is low and all ot...
