Hydraulic system filter - need suggestions

I'm making some repairs to my 420( the belly pan/ grill guard ripped off and took out the radiator and fan). Ouch! Decided to stop all off the little oil leaks as long as I'm working on it. The machine has a Henry loader with a pump mounted on the front of the crankshaft. The supply line to the pump...

Loader update.

I'm still using it with the hoses hooked up backwards. Functions fine this way, well sort of. The only problem is that you have to be careful when lifting the loader. Move the handle a small amount and the loader goes up like it should. Move it a little farther and the valve goes to float at which p...

Rear weight bar and weights - Explain to me

I have a 420 with snow pads and a Henry loader that I'm using to push some fill that has been sitting for a few years. The tracks spin if I try taking to big a bite. Should I add weight to the rear or will that put too much stress on the drive line? When were the rear weights typically used and how ...

Loader won't lift - update

Ok, I finally got the loader to lift by switching both of the hoses on each of the lift cylinders. Then the loader would lift but there was no down pressure. It worked but not very well because the control valve action was reversed with the float function on the same side as the lift function. Really...

Loader won't lift - update

I bought a 420 with a Henry loader just after Christmas and everything was fine for the first month, then it turned bitterly cold and suddenly my loader would not lift. Down pressure was fine and the bucket would tip and roll but no lift at all. I thought maybe there was a slug of ice in a line and ...

420 brake lock?

I'm missing the right foot rest and the brake lock on my 1957 420C serial number 1174**. I know the foot rest is specific to the crawler but what about the brake lock? I can't find it anywhere in my parts manual. Is it specific to the crawler or does it fit other models of the 420 as well? Thanks.

hydraulic problems - help

I bought a 420 with what I believe is a Henry loader 6 weeks ago and everything with the loader worked fine initially. Then I went to use it a week ago when the temperature was below zero. Both bucket functions work fine and the loader down pressure lifts the front of the machine off the ground but ...

PTO?

Lavoy, How hard is it to add a pto to my 420, serial number 1171**. It has a 5 speed with reverser if that matters. Do you have the parts and if so, how much would it cost? Doesn't have to be anything fancy. I want to pull a bush hog to mow my pasture. Also, will I need grousers to pull a mold board...

Shifter Smoke?

I was using my new 420 today to grade the driveway. Started to smell something after about a 1/2 hour, (could have been closer to an hour, time flys when your having fun). Looked down and noticed little wisps of smoke coming out the top of the shifter quadrant. Quickly put crawler away. In hind sigh...
