Brad, I have not been working with crawlers that long, but we have used antiseize for about 25 years on my in-laws farm equipment. There is no substitute for it when something has to come back apart after years of exposure to corrosive cow manure, silage and dirt. I am antiseizing just about everyth...

A few years ago, I split my 420 W to replace the brake pedal shaft and bushing. While I had the tractor apart, I noticed pieces of fractured cotter pin inside the bottom of the bell housing. I don't believe the cotter was original, but rather a "make do" somebody before me did. After removing the pr...

Pinion gear 14 or 16 tooth
Folks, I am in the right side final drive of the old 430C and have a #@*#" damaged pinion gear (14 tooth). Bull gear is OK :D . I am blessed to have a nearly perfect pinion gear that is 16 tooth. I would assume that if I installed this gear in the right side, I would likely have a tendancy to be ste...

Sounds like you need to locate Edward. If he is deceased and had a SS number, you may be able to find out where he lived (county) by checking on the internet. If you use this method, it is very helpful if you have his middle name or initial. Some sites will list SS numbers (deceased only). Also, try...

You guys all make excellent points, and I agree. I find my crawler to be very relaxing to work on and get away from daily stress. It is also good for the economy; helps to keep Lavoy, JD and my NAPA store in business. Always interesting to discover, uncover, fix and learn about crawler problems and ...

Lavoy This tractor was a Navy tractor, a 1956 420W and was repainted JD green prior to 1969. It is somewhat difficult to tell the shade because of age, and because there is JD green, on top of JD inductrial yellow, on top of JD yellow undercoat. I will try to match when I restore it. I use this trac...

JD Industrial Paint
Does anyone know if the yellow paint used on the JD Industrial tractors is the same JD yellow paint that is available today? Same shade or different?

Gary, I have just pulled one side. Unless you are Superman, it is more than you will want to lift. It also comes out in a clumsey manner as the rails on my crawler were close tolerance to getting the final out. I would guess the weight at least 100-150 pounds all together. In order to avoid hospital...

I broke off the heads off of several extremely pitted bolts on both sides of my crawler. If you are careful, heat can perform miracles. I blew the remaining bolt heads off with a torch, basically leaving studs sticking out of the track frame. After heating the studs, I just turned both out with a Vi...
