Re: Oil in starter
Yes the new style seal. I did not use the correct tool. I did try to borrow or rent one from john deere with no avail. I ended up using the flywheel to press it in. It has a lip that matches up with the seal. Could be a good chance it didn't work though. Probably be pulling the engine this winter

Re: Oil in starter
Sorry, its a 450c. I just got a new starter in today. The machine is out in the woods and I'll be back Monday to investigate further. The rear main seal has less than 20 hours on it. I did a rebuild not long ago. Ill pull the floorboard and pop the rubber bung out and see if it's holding oil. Might ...

Oil in starter
Looking for potential areas that oil can get in the starter. I was on some pretty steep ground pointing both up and down hill. Enough oil got in thr starter to fry it. The oil hose that goes into the block above starter a suspect area? The oil was dirty coming out of the starter, so I'm assuming eng...

Re: New project 450c
Yes I replaced all fluids and filters when I bought it. I have the manuals and I'll be using them for the rebuild. I'll look into the HLR while I have it all apart. What should a guy do with the turbo during a rebuild? Buy a kit or new turbo? Also, it is a little wet looking in the clutch housing. W...

Re: New project 450c
Well I'm rebuilding the motor. It has coolant in the oil pretty bad. While it is out I will replace the throw out bearing. Should I go ahead and replace clutch and pressure plate? Hopefully it takes care of the howl in reverse. Anything else I should replace on engine While it's out? Thanks

Gearmatic 8a winch
Will this winch fit on a 450c? I have the opportunity to buy one. It does not come with any controls either. Before I made the trip I was curious to see if it was even possible. Thanks

New project 450c
Hello I have only been introduced to this forum recently after buying a 1978 450c dozer (#313940T). This forum is full of information and very grateful it exists. The dozer I acquired needs some TLC and not sure where to start. It is my first dozer and am new to this type of machine (under carriages...
