Re: Going Keyless...is it possible?
Yeah….I have a hefty amount of keys to keep up with and organized so I was thinking it’s one less key to have to keep up with. The dozer is out on my farm a ways from my house and on occasion, I’ve been absent minded and left the key at home. Also the ignition key switch has been fairly troublesome ...

Going Keyless...is it possible?
I'm kicking around the idea of wiring up my JD450 to be keyless. I'm envisioning something like installing a battery disconnect (in a discrete location) that will switch on all accessories when flipped to the on position. Then a pushbutton to crank the machine. Currently the machine will cut off wit...

Re: JD450B steering clutches
Yes I did. I believe my machine has been re-labeled as a JD450B at some point in its life time. Either that or someone has installed a straight 450 brake drum into the machine previous to me purchasing it. Also, the vin tags were removed so I've not been able to identify exactly what machine I have ...

JD450B steering clutches
Hi All I’m in the process of rebuilding the steering clutches in my JD450B and I’m stumped. From everything I’m seeing, they require (9) clutch discs and (8) metal tab separators. I ordered a kit that came with these quantities. However, only (8) metallic clutch discs will fit and only (7) separator...

Re: Hunting Idle JD 450B
Sounds like someone converted it to the rectangular glass one. There is a bleeding procedure for fuel filters, did you bleed the filter itself after changing it? If you didn't it, may have pushed air towards the injection pump. You say it runs now, so I would just keep it running for a while at hal...

Re: Hunting Idle JD 450B
How long did you run the engine after the filter change. It sounds like air in the fuel system (kinda fits with the filter change). The is a priming lever to pump up the fuel. This lever is attached to the mechanical fuel pump on the right side of the engine, towards the front. My experience is tha...

Hunting Idle JD 450B
Hi Guys I was out running my JD 450B the other day and decided to replace the fuel filter. Directly after replacing with new, the machine started hunting for a steady idle. The RPMs fluctuated up and down and up and down. Any thoughts on what could have caused this? Is there a fuel prime out somethi...

Re: Adding a Tachometer
Going from the description…I would assume the hole that the tach gear would go into is the same hole that item #6 in the below link would screw in to? https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/sidebyside/equipment/59420/referrer/search/pgId/20364 As it turns out, my machine doesn’t have this hole in it. T...

Adding a Tachometer
I just purchased and earlier model JD 450B and as it turns out, most all of the gauges are busted out. From what I can tell, this machine didn’t come with a tachometer. I would like to add one as some of the adjustment procedures in the manual call to run the machine at a certain RPM. My question is...

Re: JD 450B - no vin tag
The ripper is off of a 450B and comes with the mounting bracket as well so hopefully it will mount straight up with little to no modifications I'm a little confused on the hydraulics part of it. My machine has a 6 way blade so, to my knowledge, there are no extra ports for auxiliary attachments. I'v...

Re: JD 450B - no vin tag
Thanks for the help guys The vin tag was at one time located on the lower right (sitting in the seat) but is definitely missing. I forgot to look to see if a vin exists on the engine but from all accounts and research, It looks like the machine is a pre 142199 dozer. I've been kicking around the ide...

Re: JD 450B - no vin tag
There should be two 1/8" rivet holes, about 3" apart, where the serial number tag would have been. You should find them in one of two places. The right side of the panel below the seat for a straight 450 or a 450B serial number 142199 and prior. Are the shift levers both located at the front of the...

Re: JD 450B - no vin tag
I just realized in my original post I said JD 450-D…..I meant JD 450-B…..sorry for the confusion and I’ve made the corrections. Are there tell tell signs to look for on a JD 450-B?

JD 450B - no vin tag
Hi guys Brand new member here. I’m in the process of purchasing, what I believe is a JD 450-B. The machine isn’t in the best of shape but I’m getting a steal of a deal so I feel good about it. The decals on the sides call it to be a 450-B. I understand they are just decals but they look to be origin...
