Re: 2010C steer clutch replacement

I have an 820/2010C loader/backhoe s/n 43157 that I just pulled the final drive from. According to the manual and my own experience you'll have to pull the drive sprockets and final drive to get the clutch shaft out in order to free up the disks and steels. No other way that I can see. If you decide...

Re: Deere 820/2010 track loader/backhoe Final Drive disassembly

Latest update on the final drive shaft removal: After being reminded by one of the Heavy Equipment forums members that the parts diagram shows a set screw holding the brake drum to the shaft, I found that by disconnecting the good left-side brake band link and blocking the clutch control back that I...

Re: Deere 820/2010 track loader/backhoe Final Drive disassembly

Happy to report that I finally got the final drive free and was able to rotate the brake/clutch drum around to where there is a set screw holding the drum to the shaft (as shown in the parts diagram. I can't tell yet what the head for it is (allen, hex, screw) because of sunlight glare, but have a b...

Re: Deere 820/2010 track loader/backhoe Final Drive disassembly

Yes, I have used my air hammer on the outer side of the gear to try to break the bond from the shaft, so far without luck. The service manual removal instructions show the shaft sliding out by means of the threaded end and suitable puller, but the parts manual shows a snap ring on the shaft next to ...

Re: Deere 820/2010 track loader/backhoe Final Drive disassembly

Since my tractor is a later model that doesn't use the shaft spacer and set screw I may be able to get my MAPP torch into large pipe plug access hole in the case on the gear side of the drum and get heat to it. With a puller under tension on the shaft and heat I'm hoping that might work to break the...

Re: Deere 820/2010 track loader/backhoe Final Drive disassembly

Yes, Everything was power washed several times between days-long soaks with diesel and PB Blaster. I joined JDcrawlers forum and was in touch with Lavoy with some early information before I got to this last issue. I don't want to destroy a part that I may not be able to replace, thus my reaching out...

Deere 820/2010 track loader/backhoe Final Drive disassembly

Thought it would be a good idea to start a new thread on an earlier post. The right side of our newly acquired Deere 820/2010 track loader backhoe final drive was full of water and had extensive rust and even dirt and small gravel bits in the bottom of the brake and clutch compartment, and much of t...

This link should bring up one of the four photos of the pin: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1N2VesXFUYnWt1PiIqbyXnf0E3FH81Z1M/view?usp=sharing. That link is a Google Drive secure URL so you may have to log in to Google. I can't figure out how to post the actual jpg photo just yet. My headed pin loo...

Re: Deere 820-2010 Loader Backhoe final drive removal. Lots - O -Rust!

Got the master pin out and didn't have to remove the pad and it is 1 1/8" in diameter at the ends, relieved in the middle. Looks like someone had it out but didn't put the clip back on, or it was missing before. The track has 39 links and I assume to be the same as the 350 per a reply from Lavoy to ...

Re: Deere 820-2010 Loader Backhoe final drive removal. Lots - O -Rust!

I got some short wood 8 x 16 blocks from my next-door neighbor that is a heavy equipment operator. I'm also a retired union millwright who knows better, but thank you for the warning. Also, always put wood between metal-to-metal surfaces to keep from slipping (learned that the hard way when I almost...

Re: Deere 820-2010 Loader Backhoe final drive removal. Lots - O -Rust!

Yep, that looks like what I have. The tractor is on a paved slope, so I had to crib it up level with some 8 x 16 blocks. There's lot's of slop in the chain and I can lift the track up enough with my forklift to block and remove the two pads. Getting under to pull the clip is next, once the area drie...

Re: Deere 820-2010 Loader Backhoe final drive removal. Lots - O -Rust!

I've seen "plow bolts" mentioned before and thought that maybe the alloy was better suited for high abrasion applications. The heads on my pads are low profile. I buy from Fastenal and will check them out if and when need, which may be sooner than later! My pads look pretty sad but getting the final...

Re: Deere 820-2010 Loader Backhoe final drive removal. Lots - O -Rust!

Thanks, now I know what to feel for. The track cannot be moved and the master is at the bottom. I've slacked off the track adjuster to get as much play in the rail as I can, but pad removal isn't going to be easy due to limited available clearance. I have all kinds of snap ring tools, so once I get ...
