When operated in #1 it did not slip even with a big hitch in really rough and muddy conditions.

I understood you that it did this in lo, hi, forward, and reverse. I asked about in #1 in the 4 speed gearbox. What gear are you running in? My mistake, I have always been running in #2 and have not tried in 1

It does it in lo as well as hi and reverse.
I haven’t done any diagnostic tests yet as I’m using it right now on a logging job.

This happens when under load like climbing a rise while pulling a load or pushing something heavy. The engine speed doesn’t change, the dozer just stops. I drained both locations fully (I let them drip dry).
I figured it was not a common sump because none of drain plugs were loctited in.

I am in the midst of a fluids and filter change on my 450C dozer, not a common sump model. The manual states that each steering clutch takes 7 gallons of fluid but I had oil overflowing out of the fill hole after about 6+ gallons. Is the fill level supposed to be right at the fill hole and why won't...

If you have a starter rebuilder nearby that is a cheaper alternative. I got mine done for about $200 vs 650 for new which was NA anyway.

My hand is just small enough to fit through the hole in the frame to allow me to hold the bottom bolt and get it out or started.

Well duh, there is a tag s/n: 450CC 268050 looks like it is a 1977. Would that year have a common sump?

The number plate is gone from my 450C, is there any way to determine year of mfg?
