I am doing a fluids and filters change on my 450c dozer and don't know where the filter for the winch is located. Any help?

Re: 450c needs a squirt of ether to start then runs and starts fine
The dozer has been sitting for a while [a few weeks] and the temps have been in the 30's most of that time. Yesterday, when I started it , it was in the 40's but as stated before, it has sat in the cold. No block heater installed. In the late summer, early fall when I was operating it daily, it woul...

Re: 450c needs a squirt of ether to start then runs and starts fine
I have not checked compression but the engine feels strong and does not use oil. When I got the machine from the former owner , I found a well used can of ether in the battery compartment so I guess it has had the addiction for a while

450c needs a squirt of ether to start then runs and starts fine
Title says it all. New batteries, rebuilt starter; engine spins over fast, blows smoke from the stack when cranking.
I give it a 1 second shot of ether and it fires up after maybe 5 seconds more cranking.
it will then start normally or the rest of the day.

Re: JD 450C no crank
2nd reman is finally installed [had a dropped bolt/buggered stud thread episode that slowed me down] and it spun over very quickly and fire right up
Fingers crossed that my starter woes are on the mend.

Re: JD 450C no crank
I just returned from the rebuilder who pulled the starter apart and rebuilt it while I waited.
It needed new armature and another set of brushes. Hopefully Hopefully it will last longer

Re: JD 450C no crank
Well less than two months later the reman appears to have died.
I get no sound or movement from the starter when i jump it connected directly to the battery.
90 day warranty so I will take it back to have them check it out.

Re: JD 450C no crank
AS far as I can tell, the NSS has been disabled on this machine since I could just turn the key and hit the start button while standing next to the dozer.

Re: use of ether to try and start,
Use of ether/starting fluid is not the best thing for any engine. JDs I have been around really don't like it and you need to be sure to use it sparingly. Has the hard starting become more of an issue as the temperature gets cooler? Hard starting can be injection pump issues, timing, cracking press...

use of ether to try and start,
My 450c lately has been a hard starter so I have resorted to a quick burst of ether into the air cleaner. The ether will fire off but the dozer does not always start and run. Today after trying to start it till the batteries got low, I left it and went away. Came back an hour later and with another ...

450c wiring schematic
Well, the intermittent electrical nature of my dozer has become a real hassle.
Does anyone have a link or a copy of the wiring they could post?

Re: JD 450C no crank
Got a call from the starter guy and went and got the reman. Took it up to the dozer and after pulling the current old starter, installed the reman. Also discovered my hand is small enough to fit through the access hole to place and thread in that pesky bottom bolt. Hooked up the electrics, hit the s...
