Thanks. I made a spring this evening.
I expect I'll just leave well enough alone. Mine looks like it a mixed bag of early and late model 440ic parts, and I wanted to see what a proper setup looked like assembled, but it's working.

440ic governor/throttle linkage
I've got a late 59 440ic gas. The bracket that supports the throttle shaft by the exhaust broke, and I lost the pivot spring, 12 608t. In looking at the parts book it looks like there are parts missing, like a spring over the shaft behind the bracket. The governor linkage has had some repair in the ...

Re: 440ic steering clutches
Thanks for the advice. I finally got time to sit down with the manual and take a look at the adjustments this evening. I'll take it out this weekend and see how it does but after adjusting both sides it seems like it working as it should. The left side throwout was too out too far before hitting the...

Re: 440ic steering clutches
Thanks for the reply. I pulled the bungs and tried to look in with a cheap usb inspection camera I have, but I couldn't really see anything much to tell me what might be wrong. It looked the like the throw-out bearing was doing its job about the same on both sides. I do have the operator and service...

440ic steering clutches
I have a 440ic that's been sitting for a decade that I just got going this summer and have been using a bit to see what all needs done. I have some steering clutch issues. The left clutch seems like its frozen, and the right seems like its slipping. When driving along it wants to gradually veer to t...

440ic hyd reservoir question
Finally get back on to putting my 440ic back together after pulling the engine to get the clutch un-stuck. How does the hard line out the front of the tank come off? Is that just a compression type fitting? When I removed it, I disconnect the line at the pump and just lifted the whole thing out. Tha...

440ic gas engine weight
Anyone have an estimate of what the engine weighs, operational, as it sits back to the clutch?

440ic engine removal/reverser question
It's cold here, too cold for me to want to work on the crawler or anything else outside. I have a stuck clutch, and I'm fairly certain I'll be pulling the engine sometime soon to free it up. I have the belly pan, hood, gas tank, and starter off right now for the other work I've been doing. The clutc...

Re: 440ic hydraulic question
I pulled the fuel tank off yesterday, and the tank is not as rusted as I thought. Found a chunk of something in the sediment bulb inlet that was causing an intermittent partial blockage. I had that happen on a old AC tractor once, an oat hull bouncing around and would cause it to run starved for awh...

Re: 440ic hydraulic question
I got my cylinders reassembled, flushed the system, and everything seems to be operating as far as hydraulics goes. I took it out for a little bit and tried to get the clutch to break loose, to no avail. Pushed a little dirt, and pushed against a small hedge tree with the clutch tied down. No luck, ...

Re: 440ic hydraulic question
Thanks Steve. I'll give that a shot once I get the parts and the cylinders together. I got it running right. I'm not sure how, but I put the venturi in upside down last time I had it apart. Glaringly obvious once I dropped the bowl. Not going to lose sleep over my mistake, cause it seems to run good...

Re: 440ic hydraulic question
Thanks Steve. It's probably not as distorted as the picture makes it look, but it's ever so slightly worn on the lip, so I'm going to assume its bypassing. It came off the piston side too, which was the side that seemed to have issues on lowering the blade. I dropped one side of cups and o rings off...

Re: 440ic hydraulic question
I pulled the cylinders apart and to my eye the Leathers look pretty good in terms of no tears or deformities. I'm not real sure if I should go ahead and replace them. Can it be they've lost their flexibility?

Re: 440ic hydraulic question
I think you're on to it Steve. I was able to get another of the check balls out (still can't get the one on the relief valve side out due to not have a spanner socket), the one on the front with the big screw plug. I put the spool back together last night and hooked everything back up. Raises strong...

Re: 440ic hydraulic question
I thought there was one at each end, one at the control level end, and the other right before the float detent assembly, but I'll take a closer look when I get home tonight and really inspect the bore closely.
