Re: 450c Engine Lugging When Releasing Clutch Pedal

I forgot to mention. Shift speeds are very fast except reverse. This video is showing H to L shift first, then L to H, then lastly H to R.

Re: 450c Engine Lugging When Releasing Clutch Pedal

The clutch is only a single stage clutch, the two stages you feel are two different things working together. The engine clutch, you called the second stage is mechanical and the first stage, as you called it, is the pedal operating a hydraulic valve of the H-L-R. Partially depressing the pedal move...

450c Engine Lugging When Releasing Clutch Pedal

I think it’s best to start a fresh thread designated to this one issue. History: I had a brake adjusted too tight that made it so steering lever was very tight and would not disengage the clutches, it would only steer with the brake. I backed it off and my steering was fixed. I measured clutch trave...

Re: Looking to purchase a 450c and sell 555a

The ring around the adjuster is part of the spring from the looks of the parts catalog drawing. I don't know if it is setting just right, but don't think it or that you backed the brake off, is your problem. Here is a link to the page and you can see the loop on the spring (item key # 5). https://p...

Re: Looking to purchase a 450c and sell 555a

You got it Jim. I have a steering lever that travels the correct distance and disengages the clutches. But now I have something new. Not only does the reverse bog the engine but now even Low lugs the engine. I don’t understand how this could happen from slackening the brake.. Something else that is ...

Re: Looking to purchase a 450c and sell 555a

The tag number is 450CA 264978T on this one, 1977 I believe. Thanks for the replies Jim you’ve been helpful. I’ve only worked on older equipment as far as construction equipment goes but I have a lot to learn. It’s like I can’t adjust the left lever properly because it’s “caught” only allowing a sho...

Re: Looking to purchase a 450c and sell 555a

Update today I can’t get enough free travel in the steering lever before the brake is engaging. I have a decent mechanical skillset but I can’t for the life of me follow the Technical Manual on adjusting the brakes/steering clutches. Half of it is just not articulated well enough to understand what ...

Re: Looking to purchase a 450c and sell 555a

I had my manual “expedited” via email to print off. I haven’t adjusted anything yet as it’s dark out but I took a closer look and after more research it appears that the left steering clutch is stuck and won’t release. That’s why the lever is so hard to pull, I think, and it never disengages the lef...

Re: Looking to purchase a 450c and sell 555a

Thanks for the reply Jim. Yes I’ve ordered the technical manual and it should be here sometime next week. I was hoping to get a jump start on a few things so I could use the 450c some this weekend but I’m nervous to keep running it with reverse lugging the engine and yanking on the left steering lev...

Re: Looking to purchase a 450c and sell 555a

Sorry another question.. I’ve been running it now and I have 2 things going on. 1. Reverse seems to really put a strain on the engine. It moves right through it but there is a substantial difference than when going in forward. Is this normal? No slipping or loss of power just engine really bogs. 2. ...

Re: What oil for 555a engine?

Yes I plumbed the harbor freight tester gauge in the same location as the original gauge was plumbed in. The original gauge was reading low and my harbor freight gauge reads low so I’m assuming this must be correct.. I replaced the pressure relief spring and cleaned out the oil cooler last year. The...

Re: Looking to purchase a 450c and sell 555a

Purchased! It looks and runs great without leaking a drop of anything. I’m trying to identify the backhoe on it. I know it reaches 14ft without being extended. Is there anything in particular I can measure or look at to see which backhoe this is? Thank you.

What oil for 555a engine?

I can’t seem to find the answer for the best oil to run in the 555a engine. I did an oil change filling it with rotella 15w-40 but the oil pressure is low (if my gauge mechanical gauge that I plumbed in is correct). I know this could mean pump or other it needs the lower end rebuilt but I’m just won...
